It's been a long time since I updated this blog. To begin with luvs is out of the hospital and living in a place of his own.He is walking with a cane and doing pretty well. His fingers are still curled but he is able to use them for simple things. So he can at least type in the room with 1 finger...lol. The biggest thing to tell is we are together again! YES we just can't live without each other. We are going to work hard to strengthen our relationship and we plan to spend the rest of our lives together regardless of what others may think. We will be in the room as often as we can and would still like everyone to chat with us. Thank your for your support.

Luvs had surgery to fuse the 1st and 2nd vertebre in his neck yesterday. It was supposed to start at 7:30 but didn't get started until about 2. The surgery went well by what the doctors said. He will be in a neck brace for 6-8 weeks but the halo is now gone. When I left today he was in a lot of pain and sleeping a lot. Not sure when or if I'll be back so this may be the last post. I have my reasons and I hope you all will respect my privacy on that issue and not ask me about it. Still pray for him and never forget to wear you seat belt. RG

I went to see luvs today. He was very depressed and cried most of the time I was there. The mrsa is under control so the doctors are going to do the surgery on his neck Friday. I will be going up Thurs night so I can be there when the surgery starts. He is looking forward to getting the halo off. His sister and brother in law stopped by while I was there and she explained to him and me all the things that went on with him last week. We laughed at all the things he said ...lol The nurse came in and told him she is glad he is back to himself. She had asked him last week what his name was and what month it was. He told her his name and then said How do I know what month my grandma was born? lol Thank goodness he laughed at the things he has said. That was the only time I saw him not crying. His uncle was there when I left so it was easier for him to see me leave. Please keep him in his prayers and always wear a seat belt. RG

I don't know where to start today. A lot has happened in the last 2 days for luvs. Yesterday they did a catscan of his brain, vertebrae and the hardware (halo) to check if there is infectin there. All results came back negative. They also did an EEG of his brain and a spinal tap to see if there was fluid in or around the brain. That too came back negative. They did a blood culture to see if the infection was in his blood...negative as well. The did another catscan of his lungs and they saw shadowing on his lungs plus he still has blood in his urine. He is still hallucinating and running a fever of 102. They now think he may have pneumonia and with him in the pysical state he is in it could be very serious. They are going to do function tests on his liver and kidneys to see if they are working properly or not. He told his sister that he is writing his 3rd book with Billy Graham. He asked Billy whey he had this accident and Billy asked him where he would be now if he had died and luvs said in hell. Billy told him that's why he didn't die. He is also seeing ppl that aren't real. I don't know what to think of all of this right now but I get a bad feeling about everything that is going on with him. I have an urgency to go see him so more than likely I will on Sunday. If I seem quiet in the room it's because this is weighing heavily on my mind. Please keep him in your prayers and last but not least, always wear a seat belt. RG

Here's the latest on luvs. He was suppose to have sugery on his neck tomorrow but it has been postponed for now. He has an mrsa which is a bacterial infection that is not treated by most antibotics. They are trying different ones to try to get rid of it. He is having hallucinations and they are hoping it is from having worn the hallo as long as he has and that is a normal thing. The doctors are afraid that the infection could be in his bloodstream and or his brain which is not good at at all. The infection is contagious so I will not be going to visit him until it is cleared up. I have tried talking to him on the phone but he doesn't make any sense ( he told me he was in prison and doesn't know why he is there.) Right now things aren't looking good for him and all we can do is pray that the antibiotics well do what they need to do and he will be out of the woods soon. Please keep him in your prayers and I will continue to keep you updated as soon as I know anything. Please please, always wear a seat belt. RG

I talked to luvs last night and he will be having surgery on his neck again next wed. He's very nervous about it bur will be glad to get the halo off. From what i have gathered, he will only have 20-30% mobility in his neck after this surgery. The vertebra weren't healing like they had hoped. I am trying my best to be there but if not i'm sure his sister or brother will keep me posted on what is going on through out the day. Please send him some extra prayers and always wear a seat belt. Got back from visiting luvs in the hospital today. I have good news and bad news. Good news, i got to watch him walk with the help of a walker! he walked 1/2 way down the hall and back. the bed news....the 1 and 2 vertebra aren't healing the way the doctors had hoped so he will have to have surgery to fuse them which means he will lose 70-80% mobility in his neck. He nervous about it but if he doesn't have it done he will have to wear the halo all the time. He was depressed about it but knows that it is his only option. He was moved to a bigger room (thank goodness!) If anyone wants his room number you can email me here for it. All in all he was in ok spirits for the news he recieved. He is still eating only very soft foods and has to have a thickener in it. This is going to be a very very long recovery and nobody knows if he will walk without a walker or cane. The rest is up to how determinded he is and how well his body heals. Please keep the prayers up and always wear a seat belt. RG

I went to visit luvs over the past weekend. The infection is gone! He was in pretty good spirits while I was there. This time I slept more than he did..lol. When we both were awake at the same time we had some very nice talks. He had a ct scan done and his neck if healing very well! The docs are hopefully he will have to wear the halo for another month. He was very happy about that! But since he had the infection it set his physical therapy back so now he has to start all over with what he had learned before. I want to thank iamtheotherwomen for sending him the cards...he really injoys getting them...especially the last one....lol. I will keep this upto date the best I can. Please keep him in your prayers and always wear a seat belt. RG

Talked to luvs on the phone today. The infections are almost gone! He did some physical therapy today but he is very weak yet and will have to start all over again. The infections really set him back. He had another swallow test and is now able to eat soft foods like pudding and applesauce. Hopefully soon he will be able to eat everything and the feeding tub will be taken out of his stomache. He was in good spirits but very tired. I am going to go visit him on Sunday and will more than likely have more to tell. Keep him in your prayers and always wear a seat belt. RG

Luvs' sister has been texting me on and off all day. He was a staff infection and the doctors aren't sure where it's coming from. They did a cat scan but couldn't find anything. They were worried it was in his insicions but they did a test on the one in his back and that was clean. If his fever doesn't go down and the swelling in his neck doesn't go down either they will do another cat scan. Thye don't want the infection going to the rods he has in his neck and they want to make sure there is no pockets of fluid that would require surgery to drain. I just got another text from her while typing this and he is going to get another cat scan now. She was going to go home but the nurses thought they (her and luvs' brother are at the hospial now) should wait for the results. Now all we can do it wait. I'm going to go to the hospital tomorrow since i have the day off and will report back when i get home. Hopefully i won't have to report anything serious. Keep him in your prayers and always wear a seat belt. RG

Luvs' was running a fever today an his neck is swelliing. The have taken blood cultures and will have the results back tomorrow. The nurses were wondering if the swellilng is due to a lymphnode but they still have no idea where the infection is. The ENT doctor did a cata scan and it showed no abscess but they are going to check the scan again. The doctor thinks the salvia gland and another gland is infected. They are putting him back on an antibotic. He is in a lot of pain and I haven't been able to talk to him since it also hurts to talk. I will be seeing him Friday and I hope the pain is better or gone. I will keep things updated when I know more. Keep the prayers comimg and wear a seat belt. RG

I talked to luvs tonight. He said they worked him very hard in physical therapy and he is sore but is loving it since he knows it will only make him better. He is in pretty good spirits and his attitude is getting better as well. He is still not able to eat solid food. He had a feeding tube in his nose but now they have put on in his stomach. He had a swallow test done the other day and didn't pass but was told to practice his swallowing technics the therapist have taught him and soon he will be able to eat. Hopefully he will be moving to the pysical therapy part of the hospital where every day he will be doing more and more things to get him better and learning how to do all the every day things we take for granted. Like putting on clothes, washing and brushing his teeth. It's going to be a long and tough road but he will be a much better person when he finally gets to leave there. Keep the prayers coming and always wear a seat belt. RG

but forgot to add....there are still some people that aren't allowed in his room by HIS request.

Ok I lied about more updates. Luv's sister sent me a couple of texts so thought I'd share them. On Tuesday a stomach feeding tube was installed and the procedure went well and just like the doc's wanted it to. They had to let it drain for 24 hours before they could use it. He was in a lot of pain that day. Today the ENT was in and felt the vocal cords will return more fully and that a person can have just one functioning vocal cord. They are hopefull the numbness he feels in his throat will regain feeling but do not know when. Please keep him in his prayers and always wear a seat belt. RG
