On Today's episode of 'Cooking with Secret_Lade'....

Secret_lade and the Spawn are cooking in the kitchen.

"Mom!! You're on fire!!"

I had been chopping up green onions to be cooked with the ground pork and now held the cutting board above the pan of ground pork.

"What are you talking about?"

"Aaah! You're on fire!"

Glancing down, the rope on the handle of the cutting board was indeed on fire.

"Holy shit!"

Out of instinct, I immediately started blowing on the damn thing trying to blow it out.

"You're not going to blow it out Mom! Put it in the sink!!"

"Oh My God!"

Turning on the faucet, I held the rope the stream and let the fire go .

"Who does that?!? Who puts something like a flammable rope on a cooking tool???"

"Bed Bath and Beyond, that's who."

We both burst laughing, a tiny sizzle sound was now coming from the rope.

Nothing screams family bonding moment quite like green onions and kitchen fires!

Really! What kind of stuff did you cook? It sounds like it was probably very entertaining!

We cooked again tonight, she was actually excited to help. I think maybe we've finally found our 'thing'.

Last time, and only time, there was a small fire in my home - a duvet burning - everyone was screaming and doing nothing. I had to run in pour water over the duvet.
I've been very fortunate, no real fire scares other than minor ones, like the cutting board rope. Every once in a while I'll singe a hot pad or burn something on the bottom of the oven, but all easily snuffed out.

Talking about "if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen". Glad the small fire didn't turn into a blazing inferno. By the way, what was it you were cooking up "Chef Surprise?"
It's been difficult trying to cook for just the Spawn and I, we just don't eat that much and don't like left overs. So I tried out Hello Fresh, I made my first recipe last night. Pork Bulgogi. Very tasty!

    I love kitchen bonding.
Have you ever had a REAL fire; one where ya gotta yank out the fire extinguisher? 🤔
I hope ya never have one of those, but it scared the crap outta me... and put a very interesting black, wavy mural on my ceiling.
I'll clean it up... one day. 👍😊
I have not, thank God! Your comment actually opened my eyes to something I don't have that that I really need to get. In the apartment, there were fire extinguishers outside the apartments and the hood fans had a type of extinguisher installed as well. I don't have a fire extinguisher here....

You should have seen us cooking tonight. LOL

I'm not making the meatballs, you make the meatballs.

Ew, no! I'm not touching raw meat.

Mom. You're 47 years old. I think it's about time you touch raw meat.
