" A lighter shade of black".

I have a friend, I know for over 30 years he's a light-skinned guy and he feels like we treat him different because he is lighter than us. I see him as a friend but I knew he feel like he's better than me, for he told me he's smarter a few times. Years ago on my 33rd birthday, that was one of the worst of my life. I rode with a lighter-skin friend and we went to visited a friend that had some darker friends there. The lighter-skin friend got into an argument with two darker friends. The two darker friend made a comment about the lighter-skin friend skin tone. I rode with the lighter-skin friend, so we left. He was crying, I was like, Wow, this is a man in his 40s. He said, i didn't come to his defense.

There was times in the past, my lighter-skin friend mentioned to a few of us darker-skinned that he was smarter than us. He said, we all treat him bad for he's lighter. I don't treat people badly. But I was and am a dark man! He though we was jealous, because of his skin and hair texture. My hair is Nappy, but I don't give a damn! I grew up in the 60s and there's was a war between blacks. The Light vs the Dark, this is stupid! If a lighter-skin person get ahead, a darker person would say it was because of their skintone. There was a saying that started in the 60s. "He's light, bright and almost white". My people had resentment against ourselves.

I seen in the military a lighter person got a break, but I didn't care. Hell, I was glad for him. I grew up and there was some blackmen, that didn't dated darker -skinned blackwomen. they though the Lighter-skinned blackwomen was beautiful, while the darker skinned wasn't! Hell, I grew up there was a sister, blacker than the Ace of Spade, but she was a knock out! I guess my preference is White or Hispanic. Don't get me wrong, I been with all races, of women. I reason I usually date White or Hispanic, because they are attracted to me! Hell, my sister think I'm a sell out for I don't mess with Black women.

Here in New Mexico, the Blackwomen like the White guys or the Mexicans! There is another saying called "Plantation mentality". That light is good and dark is not. I read some books , that talk about slavery and in the book. It said, the lighter-skin slaves had it better than the darker -skin. There are many blacks, hate being dark. I know if they had a wish, but had to be born black! They would wished they would be "A lighter shade of black"!

I grew up in a very mixed race neighborhood. We never saw skin color. None of us kids ever mentioned it. I was envious of the darker skinned kids because they didn't seem to get sunburned like I did. I admit I grew up sheltered because I never heard racist comments until I was in high school. And it was from a dark skinned girl. She didn't like the dark skinned boys and called them a bad word. I didn't understand why skin color had anything to do with what she liked. I still don't. We're all part of the human race.
Personally I have been with various skin colors including dark black. His skin was like satin, it had a gorgeous sheen to it. My choices have to do with someones heart. Their skin color just doesn't factor in.
Hi my friend, I appreicate the feedback, you always give good feedback. It shouldn't matter, but this a feud amongst my people. To me I agree with you!

Everyone has a different skin color and we should all be treated the same. As that's the way we are supposed to treat everyone, with respect and dignity and not make fun of others just because of their skin color, as there is no one better than anyone else!!

I hope you enjoy your Tuesday my friend..
My friend, I agree with you 100%, but over the year, I'm just a war amongst my race again each other.

I just hope one day people won't define people by the colour of their skin but see them for who they are.
I wish too, my friend. This is something that started hundreds of years ago and going to carry on forever. It hope it would change!
