Poor Stepford Wives!

Watched the remade Stepford Wives with a great cast including Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Glenn Close, Cristopher Walken, Bettel Midler, etc. Pathetic! No chemistry and no suspense. The original with katherine Ross and Paula Prentiss was much creepier and more fun!

Interesting how times have changed. The original captured the backlash to women's lib and men's anger over the rebellion. Now that attitude seems so seventies it is not even comprehensible. The remake has the audience feeling sorry for the underachieving males eclipsed by their women mates! So pathetic. Times change.

Went to the Laguna Arts Festival this weekend. Some really beautiful art. Always amazing how different the technique and style of each artist. Loved the pastels of Evgenia Geddadia, an interesting Russian artist. She met with us and told us the stories behind her pictures. Fascinating lady on her fourth marriage. Purchased a still life which is now gracing the guest bedroom formerly occupied by the prodigal . Nice not to pay for college tuition anymore.

Also recommend La Toque reataurant near Nordstrom's in So. Coast Plaza. Fine French bistro style, with a lovely tasting menu for a mere $28 a person. The chocolate souffle dessert is yummy! The meal goes well with a bottle of champagne! Could be worse.

NSA, fuck buddy, friend with benefits or lover?

What is the proper term for a person to have recreational sex with? My understanding of common terms:

No strings attached sex partner sounds too clinical. With humans you always have some strings. Of course, they can be easily or not so easily broken. A fling with no long term situation planned.

A fuck buddy is a friend, perhaps a former lover, that the people just share lust but not a deep commitment.

A friend with benefits is more of a friend, but also someone with whom you share a sexual release with, but not a marriage, living together or even a dating relationship. More sex, less relationship.

Now a lover sounds more romantic. More emotional and less uncommitted. A very good friend with extra benefits? But not a mate or spouse. Not just dating, because you are sharing intimacy.

So which do I seek? A loving friend, who wants to share fun, good times, sex and talk, on a relatively long term basis. Months or years. Perhaps a loving friend for all purposes? We shall see if I can meet her someday.

Share your definitions and what you have found along these lines. Your favorite label?

Why weight lifting is great!

I have been weight lifting for five years at the local YMCA. I highly recommend this form of exercise. It strengthens the body, improves appearance and gives you a lot of energy. Weight lifting only takes forty minutes twice a week, costs $45 a month.

The machines are safe, easy and not hard to learn. I do seven arm exercise machines, five leg ones and two for back and stomach. Stretch and go. Walk there and back to warm up. Very efficient and helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. I do one set of 8 to 12 reps and move on quickly so I get some cardiovascular benefit as well.

My simple program has kept my weight down and made me feel and look so much better. Healthy guys are better at sex! The blood goes through the arteries/veins better.

I recommend people eat less and exercise more for a healthier and happier life. I do not smoke, take a baby aspirin a day, eat fruits and vegetables and avoid negative people and overdoing stress. I try to have a least one orgasm a day, too. So I should live to be 100 or at least have fun for many years.

a hetero male who supports same-sex marriage

I think same sex couples should have the same basic civil right to marry as hetero couples. I know one gay male couple who has been together for twenty years, far longer than their siblings' straight marriages! They pay taxes and form a stable couple. The legal structures should support such stable unions.

Besides gays should have to pay higher taxes for the privilege of being married too. And have the same social security benefits, adoption rights, hospital visitation privileges, intestate succession rights, etc. California civil unions do not grant federal pension or tax benefits!

Many Canadian provinces, their states, allow same-sex marriage:

As of February 2005, seven of the ten provinces and one of the three territories in Canada recognize same-sex marriage.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in:

* Ontario, from June 10, 2003;
* British Columbia, from July 8, 2003;
* Quebec, from March 19, 2004;
* Yukon Territory, from July 14, 2004;
* Manitoba from September 16, 2004
* Nova Scotia, from September 24, 2004;
* Saskatchewan, from November 5, 2004; and,
* Newfoundland and Labrador, from December 21, 2004.

In each of these provinces, and the Yukon Territory, same-sex marriage was legalized as a result of court cases in which provincial/terriorial courts deemed any ban on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional.

Same-sex marriage is not legal in:

* Alberta;
* New Brunswick;
* Prince Edward Island;
* Nunavut (althought the territory does recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions); and,
* The Northwest Territories.

In Europe, Netherlands and Belgium permit same-sex marriage, and they still survive:

As of February 2005, the Netherlands and Belgium are the only western countries to have legalized same-sex marriage nation-wide. Since 2003, same-sex marriages have been legally performed in most Canadian provinces and territories. However, Canada won’t become the third western country to allow same-sex marriage nation-wide until the Civil Marriage Act is passed sometime in the spring of 2005.

Several countries have passed ‘civil union’ and ‘partnership’ laws providing same-sex couples with some of the rights and benefits enjoyed by married heterosexual couples. However, these laws do not give same-sex couples the equivalent status that married heterosexual couples enjoy. (For example, Denmark’s partnership law does not permit same-sex couples to adopt that do not belong to one of the partners.) Additionally, when a couple is legally married in one country, that marriage is legally valid and recognized by other countries. This is not the case with legislation regarding same-sex unions. In the United States, where marriage is a state (and not a federal) responsibility, couples obtaining a civil union under state law do not enjoy the same rights and benefits that apply to married couples under federal law.

Examples of legislation regarding same-sex couples in Europe

* European Parliament: In March 2000, the European Parliament passes a motion calling on all European Union countries to pass legislation recognizing same-sex unions.
* Netherlands : The Netherlands is the first country to recognize same-sex marriage nation-wide, with ‘registered partnerships’ introduced in 1996. These partnerships are open to same-sex as well heterosexual couples, and involved the same rights and duties as marriage. In 2001, the institution of marriage itself is expanded to include same-sex couples, as well as the right for same-sex couples to adopt .
* Belgium : In 2003, Belgium becomes the second country to recognize same-sex marriage nation-wide. However, parental rights are not extended to same-sex couples. For example, same-sex couples are still prohibited from adopting.
* Denmark : In October 1989, Denmark passes a law recognizing registered partnerships. The law is amended in 1999 to allow couples in a registered partnership to adopt each other’s . Since 1999, couples entering a registered partnership have been able to have their ceremony conducted in the state Danish Lutheran Church. Couples in a registered partnership may be required to pay alimony if they choose to terminate the partnership.
* Germany : In 2001, Germany passes a law recognizing registered partnerships. The final version of the legislation that is enacted is ‘watered down,’ removing certain tax benefits (normally given to married partners) that were included in the original bill.
* Other European Countries : Countries such as France, Britain, Sweden, Finland, and Portugal have recognized some form of same-sex partnership or union, with many rights similar to those of marriage. However, as of February 2005, none of these countries has granted same-sex couples access to the institution of marriage.

Why not allow same-sex couples this basic right?
The Old Testament disapproved, but the Bible permits slavery, death for adultery and bans eating pork and shellfish like lobster. Why let the views of 1000 BC control modern civilization?
The Bible was against birth control, Onan spilling his seed. Not useful today. Biblical theory opposed to masturbation makes people guilty about a harmless and helpful practice!

Besides if gay men get married that is less competition for the ever short supply of hot women for the hetero guys! [kidding] How does the fact that others are having a different type of sex than I prefer threaten me or society? Will straight men and women stop being straight if they can have a gay marriage? Gay men are about 10% and this number will not change. Do we want to force gay men who want to marry to marry women? So they can be unhappy together? Why? We allow sterilized women and men marry and old infertile men and women marry so we do not require procreation for marriage. We let convicted felons, even those on death row, marry. We let sado-masochistics marry. We let molesters marry. Why can't we let decent, law abiding, tax paying gay people marry? I do not get it!

Besides not all marriages are happy, so if we want to punish gays for not being hetero, we should allow them to marry so they can be unhappy too!

New double standard about cheating marrieds?

I find it surprising that on Senior Sizzle there seems to be more criticism of married guys who seek recreational sex outside marriage than of women who do the same! This attitude is a far change from the traditional view that some guys were over sexed and married women would accept a certain amount of philandering. Perhaps there is just some hypocrisy on the part of guys sucking up to the undersupply of available women and single people who do not have a clue what happens after years of unsatisfying sex in marriage. And some women correctly prefer single guys if they hope to find a marriage partner.

Explanations or comments?

I noticed that sexyfitwoman is married but still seems quite popular, and has interesting observations in her blogs. Is this just another example of the law of supply and demand?

Want what you don't have? Not always!

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence, is proverbial. Or maybe the grass is just over the septic tank, as Erma Bombeck wrote.

Some things I do not have I do not want. Like cancer, aids, assassins trying to assassinate me. Negative and painful stuff.

Sexually, those with a partner are often looking to have an experience unlike the present partner one. More like a porno or experience. Oddly enough, the best experience is described as a "" or girlfriend experience, with the kissing and intimacy or a hot time with a girlfriend! So partners imitate hookers and hookers imitate girlfriends! Hookers and pornos are just faking it anyway. But it looks good and can feel good too, I understand.

Seems a number of married women are looking for a woman to have a lesbian sexual experience. This type of sex is seen as less cheating, apparently. Perhaps a different type of sex is seen as less competitive with the male sex activity? To me sex is sex, whether with a female or male.

Wanting what you don't have makes sense sometimes. Humans seem to strive for what is beyond their grasp. That process of desiring what you have not got leads to new adventures, but can prevent contentment and happiness with the current state.

Recent study on male bisexuals

Recent study on male bixexuals tested arousal of male when shown various porn videos. The hetero males responded to females, the gay males to gay videos and the bisexuals reacted like hetero or gays. Which confirmed the gay claim that there are gays, straights and liars. No such thing as a male bisexual. May be more complicated than that but the ones tested do not support the theory there are male bisexuals. The same article claimed only 1.5% of women were true bisexuals. So those couples looking for a bisexual female are striving for a rare bird.

Based on the numbers, I should have chosen to be a hetero female as there are lots of guys looking to provide me with sexual pleasure. Maybe in my next life!

Perhaps I should become gay, or threaten to do so! Then a lovely woman would decide to lure me back into the hetero fold... The things we do for love, or a reasonable facsimile.

Angelina Jolie is hot! And Brad Pitt is not too shabby either. This summer movie is fun escapist fare in the mode of James Bond meets the War of the Roses. Fun destroying a house and department store while killing mercenaries and lots of fun stunts, car chases, etc.

Angelina has luscious lips, a great figure and a charming sly style. She can act, and is smart! Very sexy and has a edgy quality that works well in action adventure films. She was also good in Girl Interrupted! She can beat me up and then have make up sex with me anytime!

She looks great in the dominatrix getup, as well as everything else. So add me to the long, long list of her admirers!

wife or mistress/lover, who has better deal?

The usual assumption is that the wife gets the benefits of marriage and the mistress is exploited for sex. But is this true? Maybe being a wife is not so great and being a mistress not so bad!

The theory used to be that marriage was a long enduring basis for raising and providing companionship and support in your old age. Not true many times these days. Marriages often do not last. And the are raised in blended families. Lots of marriages do not look like fun; people are bugging each other or spend lots of time apart. Plus do you want to spend lots of time with a particular person as they get bitter, sick and demented?

Money is important, but women now have their own jobs, pensions and homes. They may not need to stick with a guy just for a place to live and living expenses.

Mistresses/lovers usually have a shorter duration than marriage, but not always. As Camilla Parker showed, some lovers become wives. When the guy is dating a lover he tries harder to be interesting, spends more Money on the lover and works harder to please sexually. So does the female! You miss out on the PTA meetings, taking the laundry to the cleaners and other chores. Is that so bad? You miss the "joys" of raising a together, but a lot of that experience is not so much fun! The samrtass who has drug problems, academic problems, etc. Paying for car insurance so the little smartass can total the car! And raise your insurance rates too! Who needs the grief!

Each experience teaches you about life, but maybe the lovers are not so exploited and the married not so lucky! People always seem to strive for what they do not have. Contentment is elusive.

Greatest human discoveries are basic stuff!

Saw a Discovey channel special on the 100 greatest human discoveries. Number 1 was Darwin's teory of natural selection and evolution. Number 2 was einstein's general theory of relativity and Nuumber 3 was Einstein's insight E=mc squared or special theory of relativity. These are major insights and led to great stuff, but in my view civilization owes more to basic stuff:

The understanding of fire, the wheel, using tools, art decoration, music, woodworking, metal working, baking bread, making wine and beer, making boats, language, written language, growing cereal grains, hunting with spears and bows and arrows, transporting water for drinking and irrigation, making glass, making houses, indoor plumbing, electricity, paved roads, domesticating animals, etc.

The modern world would be impossible without the printing press, radio, TV, telephones, computers, internet, street lighting, traffic signals, cars, buses, subways, trucks, trains, cargo ships, airplanes, home appliances like refrigerators, washer/dryer, records and tapes, TV, cd, dvd, digital cameras, etc.

Also basic things like organized police force, fire control, military, air traffic control, water treatment, trash collection, storm sewers, flush toliets, freeways, large scale manufacturing and retail distribution, consumer credit, stock exchanges, Medicare, health insurance, social security, retirement accounts, pensions.

All of my listed discoveries were more important to everyday life than Discovery channels top three discoveries in my view.

Some other concepts that I marvel at: private property, God, due process, independent judiciary, representative government, Free press, Bill of Rights, Civil Rights laws, anti-pollution laws, Freedom of Religion, patents and copyrights, international trade, Federal reserve, US Treasury and bond market, UN and international law.

Forgiving one's parents

I realized that my parents were crazy, difficult, fallible people who made many mistakes and were far from the ideal ones I thought they were when I was very young. Then I discovered the other parents in the world were similarly fallible and in many ways worse than mine were. When I had a I discovered I made different mistakes than my parents did, but my shortcomings were perceived as just as bad by our !

My parents actually did a good job, and I am trying to do a better job of parenting! But the truth is we all make mistakes and we are all crazy in diferent ways. My is starting to realize that his parents could have been much worse! Nothing like seeing some terrible examples.

Forgiveness of our and others' inadequacies is the answer. Acceptance of our limitations and trying to improve what can be made better while bearing the stuff that cannot be remedied. Sounds like the Serenity Prayer!

My definition of maturity is when you stop blaming your parents for your own behavior or shortcomings.

Our damn US medical system

I get upset at our dumb US medical system!

A leading cause of bankruptcy is uninsured medical costs that people cannot afford to pay. Hospital bills, doctor bills and drugs quickly run into thousands of dollars even with medical insurance!

Many are not insured because employers find it too expensive to provide; they cannot compete with those who do not provide or foreign companies without those costs.

30% of the medical costs are for billing and administrative costs! The forms are confusing and waste time for everyone.

Many rich people over 65 get covered by medicare, including Warren Buffet, while poor young couples with low paying jobs and small get no federal insurance coverage!

Many treatments are classified experimental and then the insurance company refuses to pay even if they have been in use for years!

Doctors get out of ob/gyn practice because med. malpractice insurance costs over $100,000/year.

According to studies, about 10% of the time patients receive seriously substandard diagnosis and treatment! Less than 1% of these malpractice events get compensated for the failures and damages!

Many doctors are sick of the system and warn their not to become doctors!

There is an acute nursing shortage, so that many nurses come from foreign lands.

Many drugs approved elsewhere languish for years before getting approved in the US. Many drugs continue to be prescribed despite serious side effects like Vioxx, phen-phen, etc.

Hospitals can lead to infections. General anesthesia can lead to cancer or heart attacks, as well as 4% of the time not waking up!

Hospitals and doctors overcharge the insured and solvent to make up for the large numbers of uncollectible billings and services. Unfair!

Healthy eating and exercise beats medications and surgeries! Avoid smoking and pollution!

The only safe approach is to stay healthy! The medical system is dangerous to your health!
