Dumb things people say

I love to see the humor in taking literally the things people say. Some examples:

Some lawyers say they are criminal attorneys! They mean criminal defense attorneys usually. If they try to bribe a juror or intindate a witness into not testifying they may become criminal defendant attorneys.

A similar gaffe is the lawyer who claims to specialize in legal malpractice! Usually they mean malpractice defense or plaintiff work, but sometimes I am not so sure!

I also enjoy when people mangle common expressions or cliches and inadvertently say something stupid. An example: "I could care less!" when they mean "I could NOT care less!"

Another funny thing is when people mispronouce words from having read them. One example is pronouncing the T in often. Like the K in knight, this letter was silent for many years, but is making a comeback! Saying of-ten is now so common it is becoming standard pronunciation.

Of course spelling is returning to the Elizabethan approach before there was a standard orthography. Many on Senior Sizzle confuse discrete with discreet. Cease the day, for seize the day, etc.

I am not trying to be hyper picky about language, but as I said to the law students I taught, you do not want to be unintentionally funny. Humor is a blessing and laughing is good for you, but do you want the audience laughing with you or at you?

Stockbrokers have a duty to learn the risk tolerance and goals of their customers and make reasonable recommendations based on all the facts. There is a margin for error and they can get away with putting 5 to 10% into very speculative stuff, like options or penny stocks. The major debacles occur when there is a crash in internet stocks as occurred in 2000 to 2002 and most or all of the account is in speculative stuff. 2003 was a great comeback year but many had fled to bonds and got creamed again.

Too much trading, called churning, eats too much of the account in transaction costs. Margin can make things worse by increasing the risk or leverage and the interest charges add to the expense.

Better to be patient and get rich over decades rather than plunge in too far and fail quickly.

Always amazing that people will spend more time picking a set of tires or refrigerator than investments that provide for their retirement.

Stock market investing for fun and profit!

I have been specializing in suing stock brokers for senior citizens primarily since 1985. I have learned there are many ways to lose money in the markets!

Still the stock market is a great way to make money!

You need to spend time to do it semi-intelligently. I advise people to invest on there own as so many stockbrokers are untrustworthy. It is not that hard to learn! I use the info provide by Charles Schwab on the internet.

To start I think people should invest in no-load mutual funds to get diversity of investments. Sadly, many funds underperform the indexs of non managed lists of stocks. So random list of 500 or 1000 stocks, with lower management fees does better than carefully chosen ones!

To be properly diversified you need to own at least 30 stocks and have no more than 3% in any one investment! Expensive to achieve buying individual stocks. Still not that hard. I own 15 different stocks and 20 different mutual funds.

To avoid paying federal and state taxes I hold stocks and funds in Keogh, IRA or 401k pension accounts. The power of tax free compounding over decades is amazing. We started our 23 year old on a Roth IRA a few years ago and it is worth $6,000 now! Compounding for 50 years and then take out the money tax free is very sweet.

Your money and future is too important to trust to social security and the government.

I do not care for bonds or money market funds. Not enough bang for tying up the bucks. On average the stock market has gone up 13% from 1929 to now.

I have done very well in energy, Latin America, Eastern Europe and housing stocks and mutual funds. I am still in those areas as I expect them to continue to be good for a few years more.

Why I stopped drinking Calif. wine

Cost versus taste killed Cal. wines for me. They are too expensive for what they are. I prefer to spend $20 to $200 for a fine French bordeaux red.
The French Chablis and Sancerre are a great deal at $15 to $30 a bottle. I also enjoy the Spanish reds at $6 to $25 a bottle. Love to share some great wine with friends. I have learned a lot about wine in the last three years. Enjoy!

Most influential rockstars!

My favorite rockerstars of the last fifty years:

1. Most attractive and influential rocker: Elvis Presley. Great in fast, slow, gospel and country-rock tunes. The best and most successful showman of the last fifty years.

2. Best singer-songwriter: Bob Dylan. The most interesting and influential of the singer songwriters who inspired everyone to get more intelligent songs about something other than love and heartache.

3. Best band: The Beatles. No other group did so much to win the hearts and entertain. Hard to believe they only lasted five years in America from 1964 to 69!

4. Longest running rocking band: Rolling Stones. They had many good songs, but just staying together and touring still makes them special.

5. Favorite English sixties performers: The Who.
They outplayed the Rolling Stones on the Rock & Roll circus show that was hidden for decades. Their drummer Keith Moon was amazing and Roger Daltrey vs. Peter Townsend was riveting. Catch their Isle of Wight show on cable sometimes if you don't know what I am talking about.

6. Favorite female singer songwriter: Joni Mitchell. None of the Alainis Morrisettes of the world could have existed without Joni Mitchell. Her sweet voice and great spirit ever soar.

7. Favorite country singer: Patsy Cline. My personal favorite for all times when I am blue or disatisfied. I love her to death! Hank Williams Sr. gets honorable mention as favorite male singer of country songs.

8. Favorite Classic singer/arranger: Buddy Holly. Just so innovative and great with such writing style

Baseball sex!

Some sex therapists are now advocating adults and return to the quaint idea of baseball sex. For those not old enough to remember:

First base was kissing aka making out. Done on second or third date. First date ended with a kiss goodnight if a possible love connection, or not if not.

Second base was fondling her breasts, with kissing, generally on third to sixth dates.

Third base was stroking her vagina or mutual masturbation. Advanced couples added oral sex here. From a month to six months after onset of dating.

Home base was intercourse! Some women remained technical virgins by refusing vaginal intercourse reserving that last orifice for future husband's use!

Why is this system better than having intercourse on the first, second or third date? The theory is that people get to know each other better; the sex is more meaningful when you have gained trust and affection with your partner. In some circles women have reinstituted these rules to slow up the guys so the women will be taken more seriously as ltr partners. Others just prefer to add spice by building suspense.

What is your take on baseball sex? Hopelessly old fashioned or a good antidote to too fast fucking?

Some gender differences

I was reading a funny blog about some of the differences between men and women. Some of my general observations (exceptions exist):

Women are more detail oriented, and sweat the small stuff more often than guys do. Many guys feel it is good enough if they get the big picture issue solved. Why usually the CEO is a man, and the key executive assistant is a women, (apart from the pervasive sexism!)

More guys are cheap than women, but more guys do not want to appear cheap in public!

Women often nag more than guys, except guys more often nag about sex.

Many guys rank sex as their number one priority. Relatively few women put sex number one. Bless those hot foxy ladies who do as they are always popular!

Women will walk around with no money in their purse, except emergency money for a cab or phone. Most adult successful guys carry $100 or more.

Guys are pushy and assertive; women are bitchy and agressive! Guys are demanding or perfectionists; women are difficult to work with! (same behavior labeled adversely when shown by a woman).

Many women love to shop for clothes; many men shop at one store to get a specific item of clothing, try it on or not, and buy it, then exit the store.

Some women are good cooks, relatively few men are. Some men just warm items and arrange prepackaged items on a plate, which is not cooking!

More men then women interrupt the speaker to make some comment. More often women look at the man's expression when he is talking to gauge his emotions. More often men look straight forward or not at the speaker when she is talking. Women are better at reading emotions then men, generally.

Women's intuition is real and generally comes from their superior skills at reading intents and emotions, from paying attention and studying them.

When men get together they often do so around an activity like fishing, softball, bowling, etc. Women will get together for lunch and shopping or just to talk!

The battle of the sexes will never be won, so long as the contestants keep fraternizing with the enemy!

Add some of your observations, please!

My 2003 Red Mustang Cobra

I am enjoying my hot car that I bought back in Oct. 2002. I have spent a lot modifying and improving it with aftermarket parts. All for go, not show. Mainly improved the suspension and engine performance, but also upgraded the shifter, clutch, cooling system and brakes.

It looks stock, but the engine now puts out 465 HP at the rear wheels, versus about 340 HP stock. I do not abuse the car by drag racing it, but it should do about 11.5 seconds in a quarter mile with a competent driver.

I took my car to the Buttonwillow race track last Halloween for a high performance drive experience. Not a race! I had a real race car driver sitting next to me while I circled the track some 80 times in two days. He told me when to accelerate, turn and brake. Yes I was lots better at driving the line by the end of the weekend! Going again in November to improve further.

The technology is pretty amazing. More power than most seventies race cars with cd player, good sound system, and can drive daily, with a top end over 180 MPH! 0 to 100 in 10 seconds! Yahoo!

Seems like anal intercourse and ass play is the next big thing. Not sure if it is the taboo, or people just like the sensation. Of course my mate refuses anything to do with it for her or me.

The pornos in one local shop were literally entirely devoted to anal sex! I did not believe this was so compelling for so many! Women cannot get pregnant from anal intercourse, but the risk of HIV infection is greater due to the absorption qualities of the large intestine.

sometimes during masturbation I find playing with my balls, perineum and rectum adds to the fun. I am careful to wash well before and after, and use lube. Not want to tear anything and lead to incontinence! The body is an amazing thing!

So ladies and gents, tell me about your anal adventures!

Catholic church and evolution

Apparently the Catholic church is now joining the fundamentalists in opposing evolution and natural selection to claim divine intelligent design in the creation of different species.

I am not a believer in religion; I am in the secular humanist camp. I have real problems when they try to claim the creationist approach is scientific. Some problems:

1. Human DNA shares about 99.7% of the DNA with chimpanzees, and lesser correlation with other primates. If God created us separately why reuse so much DNA? Just being efficient?

2. Human anatomy has many similarities with other mammals. Consider and forearms and Blue whale fins. Why did God bother?

3. The Bible's timeline only goes back about 5000 years. Takes a long time to have the Colorado river carve the Grand Canyon through that granite and other stone. Moon rocks are 4.5 billion years old.

4. Scientists have found traces of organic compounds in meteorites and in space. Some even think life was seeded in the oceans from space. Why bother if God was creating the garden of Eden here on earth?

5. The process of natural selection makes so much sense when you see the niches and similar roles different animals play in different places, like the role marsupials play in Australia compared to rodents elsewhere.

6. Why are their old world and new world monkeys, unless geographical isolation from tectonic plate shifts?

7. What about the fossil record of horses, wolves, pigs, sloths, dinosaurs and primates?

8. If humans were the sole reason for God creating the universe, why is the thing so big as it seems a lot of wasted space!

I think I will stick with believing in evolution until a better theory is supported by the facts.

I am in Los Angles hotbed for millions of hot people. Yet I am now contemplating a fascinating invite from Arizona. How far would you go to get sexual satisfaction? I have read some say they would not drive longer than the sex would last, but the sex might last all weekend! Lets hear some comments from those who traveled for their love!

I just might do it!

Circumcised penis, better or worse?

Well mine was cut when I was a few days old so that is that. I watched a Penn & Teller Bullshit episode condemning this barbaric practice on a number of grounds. They failed to mention the health benefits.

I recall reading a study which claimed Jewish women with circumcised husbands had a much lower incidence of cervical cancer. Unclear why.

Also found this comment recently posted here:

"the study concluded that males were 70 times more likely to get and give HIV if they were NOT circumcised. Want to avoid HIV? Get the cut...one study section in South Africa was stopped halfway through the study because the results were overwhelmingly positive on the stoppage of the spread of HIV by circumcised men."

If true, seems pretty compelling advantage for circumcision. Most parents seem to do it for aesthetic reasons or so their boy will not feel different from others. Does make it easier to keep the area clean.
