Gay marriage?

Justice Alito is a right wing conservative judge on the U.S. Supreme Court. He gave a speech to a right wing group complaining about liberals not liking his views. Not surprising. The U.S. Supreme court not has 6 right wingers and 3 liberals left, while a majority of Americans are moderate or liberal. Alito is a sore winner.

He was mad about allowing gays to marry, among other things. Since gay sex was held to be legal in private between consenting adults marriage seems to be obviously equally legal, if you want to treat people fairly. Why not let gay people love each other and be a legal couple? How are non-gay people harmed by letting gay people marry? If marriage is a good thing, then more marriages is better.

Single people miss out on many tax breaks and other advantages. They should be annoyed with the better treatment of married people. But gay marriages are less then ten percent of the marriages. So do single people protest straight marriage? No, they want to get married. At least until they marry....

Trump shows the modern approach to the problem. Cheat on your spouse as he has done in all marriages of Trump. Problem solved.

Basic income, free money from NYT:

Enjoying life is no trivial matter for the slight, serious Mr. Bohmeyer, whose experimental, grass-roots platform has thus far given more than 650 randomly-selected people 1,000 euros a month, around $1,165, for a year, no strings attached, just to test a thesis. Namely, that what people need to thrive in a rapidly changing world is not more money, but more security, and that an unconditional basic income — a monthly sum to cover living expenses that, if implemented, would be paid by the government and received by everyone — could enable this.

The idea has resonated in Germany, a wealthy country that spends about a third of its G.D.P. on a robust social welfare system. In the six years since Mr. Bohmeyer first called for donations “My Basic Income” has raised about €8 million, thanks to 140,000 or so private donations of sums as low as a couple of euros a month.

Now, after publishing a best-selling book detailing the experiences of a cross-section of recipients — ranging from a hotel heiress to a homeless man — Mr. Bohmeyer and his team have partnered with the respected German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin for a study. As part of this “pilot project,” 120 randomly chosen people will receive €1,200 a month for three years, while a larger control group of “statistical twins” in similar life situations will not. When the call for applications went out in August, a million people signed up in less than three days.

Given its small size, the study does not look at macroeconomic impacts, like how taxes would be affected or if a basic income would lead to inflation. Rather, it will simply try to find out whether unconditional monthly payments lead to statistically significant changes in recipients’ behavior and feelings. “Is there a dark side?” asked Mr. Schupp, noting that in recent polls, about half of Germans found the concept good, in principle. “Or do we get confirmation of the nice stories in Michael Bohmeyer’s book?”

To write “What Would You Do? How an Unconditional Basic Income Changes Us,” Mr. Bohmeyer and his co-author took 10 days to travel through Germany interviewing 24 recipients, past and present. In keeping with the findings of other basic income studies around the world, they found that few people quit their jobs. Many, however, made changes — a social worker used the extra resources to retrain as a hospice worker, and a just-treading-water retiree quit her off-the-books job waitressing for an exploitative boss and got another job at a better restaurant.

Regardless of whether they spent the money, saved it, invested it or gave it away, almost all of the people interviewed said the monthly payments just made them feel better. “We call it the ‘basic income feeling,’”

Biden wins

those who did not think it could happen... It did. Biden won. With some help from Covid 19 which Trump bungled. We paid a big price but we got rid of a would be king.

Sadly 70 million Americans voted for Trump even though he showed fascist and autocrat tendencies. That so many in the U.S. do not care about democracy and the history of the U.S. is troubling. Hard to keep a democracy when many do not care for our form of government.

So what will Biden do? His plans are well known:

President-elect Joe Biden is planning to quickly sign a series of executive orders after being sworn into office on Jan. 20, immediately forecasting that the country’s politics have shifted and that his presidency will be guided by radically different priorities.

He will rejoin the Paris climate accords, according to those close to his campaign and commitments he has made in recent months, and he will reverse President Trump’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. He will repeal the ban on almost all travel from some Muslim-majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing “dreamers,” who were brought to the United States illegally as , to remain in the country, according to people familiar with his plans.

Although transitions of power can always include abrupt changes, the shift from Trump to Biden — from one president who sought to undermine established norms and institutions to another who has vowed to restore the established order — will be among the most startling in American history.
Biden’s top advisers have spent months quietly working on how best to implement his agenda, with hundreds of transition officials preparing to get to work inside various federal agencies. They have assembled a book filled with his campaign commitments to help guide their early decisions.

Biden is planning to set up a coronavirus task force on Monday, in recognition that the global pandemic will be the primary issue that he must confront. The task force, which could begin meeting within days, will be co-chaired by former surgeon general Vivek H. Murthy and David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner.

There has also been a recognition of those around him that he may have to lean more on executive actions than he had once hoped. He can reorient various federal agencies and regulations, and he can adopt a different posture on the world stage.

I expect Biden will also increase support for Obamacare and expand its scope. A tax of one dollar on anyone without health insurance and using these funds for Obamacare will make moot the GOP case to destroy Obamacare pending in the U.S. Supreme Court.

We will see if hope conquers fear.

Trump knows he will lose the popular vote. So he does not want to have the mail in votes counted after Nov. 3.

In Texas Trump sued to block the drive in ballots. 127,000 of them. The Texas Supreme Court twice said drive in ballots are valid. Trump is now trying block them in Federal court. Lost again before the District court judge. Trump intends to appeal. He should lose again.

What kind of monster tries suppress valid votes? The GOP Trump kind.

The election is still going on to count the votes. That is normal. Trump claims fraud, with no evidence of fraud. Trump lies again. The new normal.

Hard to understand the appeal of Trump to a normal human thinking person.

Trump loves the low information voter, and they love Trump back.

Biden and Harris will return us decency and reality. Apparently that is battle.

If the votes are counted, Biden should win. Biden is ahead in electoral votes in the called state races. Up to Wis, PA and Michigan again... Or Nevada, AZ and a few more.

Trump false claim about doctors and money

At a rally in Michigan Friday, President Trump repeated an extraordinary and unfounded claim that American doctors were profiteering from coronavirus deaths. “You know our doctors get more money if somebody dies from Covid,” Mr. Trump said, adding that in Germany and other countries, deaths are characterized differently if there appear to be multiple causes. “With us, when in doubt, choose Covid.”

Medical professionals and organizations quickly decried those comments and lauded the work of nurses, doctors and other health care workers who have risked their lives and worried about the health of their families as they cared for people infected with the coronavirus.

“The suggestion that doctors — in the midst of a public health crisis — are overcounting Covid-19 patients or lying to line their pockets is a malicious, outrageous and completely misguided charge,” said Susan R. Bailey, the president of the American Medical Association, in a statement on Friday.
“Rather than attacking us and lobbing baseless charges at physicians, our leaders should be following the science and urging adherence to the public health steps we know work — wearing a mask, washing hands and practicing physical distancing,” she added.

Coronavirus cases are rising in Michigan as a third wave of infections spreads across the country. This week, the state recorded a 91 percent increase in new cases from the average two weeks earlier.

Trump made a similar false claim about physicians at a campaign rally on Oct. 24 in Wisconsin — another state that has seen a surge in cases this month — when he said that “doctors get more money and hospitals get more money” for reporting more deaths due to the coronavirus.

That prompted a backlash from organizations including the Society of Hospital Medicine, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

“These baseless claims not only do a disservice to our health care heroes but promulgate the dangerous wave of misinformation which continues to hinder our nation’s efforts to get the pandemic under control and allow our nation to return to normalcy,” the American College of Emergency Physicians said in a statement on Sunday.

The Covid 19 virus is raging across the U.S. and Europe. Time wear a mask, keep your distance and stay safe. As more are in the hospital, ICU and will die we feel sad for the injured and fallen. Not much comfort in knowing you died for Trump's foolish views of the reality of Covid 19.

But we have no choice of the past mistakes. Lets hope we learned and will not repeat the mistake of relying on the lies and fake promises of Trump the salesman.

As the joke goes, you gonna believe Trump or your own lying eyes!

Stormy Daniels and Trump

Stormy Daniels, porn star, claims Trump had a brief affair, and she got paid $130,000 not to tell ahead of the 2016 election. She claims in her book according to news reports that Trump had a small dick with a freakish large head, like a mushroom. This is not important, except if true it could explain why he is so driven to insult and harm others. Also why he is pissed about powerful women.

Vote this inept fool out of office so sanity can return to the POTUS spot.

Election day is Nov. 3. But many are already voting. Like 30 million have, including and many I know. the numbers for Joe Biden look good. Many educated people are upset with the brash and mean Trump and the heartless GOP Senate.

Covid 19 has killed about 300,000 unofficially in the U.S. due the mismanagement by Trump and his friends. Checkout the damages in Taiwan, New Zealand, Vietnam, South Korea, or even Germany and Canada. So many did better than the U.S.

The U.S. is wealthy and we have many smart people. Why have we done so poorly?

Dr. Fauchi and others know what needs be done. Masks, social distancing, washing hands and staying protected as much as possible. Trump made mask wearing a political football instead of a common sense health aid.

Nate Silver gives the Dems a 70% chance of winning the White House and both houses of Congress. From his lips God's ears. Vote blue and toss out the Trumpsters.

We need trillion dollars of economic stimulus avoid disaster, but Moscow Mitch and friends are feeling cheap while the economy is dying. We need leaders who care about the suffering not just themselves. Dump the Trump.

Amy Barnett and the Catholic question

The Dems have no problem with Catholics. Biden is a devoted one. So was JFK.

The problem is Barrett is right wing. The concern is that she would overturn Roe v. Wade and the ACA. Women should control their own bodies at least in the first months of pregnancy, and deserve equal health insurance and health care.

If the GOP packs the SOTUS with a 6 3 right wing bench then the Dems need add more judges the bench. That is power politics as played by the GOP. They have no allegiance principles. Just the golden rule, those with the gold rule.

Seems like this election is taking too long all ready. But actually it is already going on. I voted and dropped the ballot off at a city hall nearby. The mail has enough work to do.

Biden is way ahead in the polls. Not complacent after the upset in 2016. The results will take some time to count, but it is looking good for the Dems. The rats are leaving the sinking Trump ship.

The Covid 19 is getting worse again and will be with us for a long time I fear. Got to get used to that story hanging around. Mask up, distance and wash hands and live longer.

DHS report

The Department of Homeland Security warned on Tuesday that violent white supremacy was the “most persistent and lethal threat in the homeland” in an annual assessment that a former intelligence chief had accused the agency of withholding in deference to President Trump.

The intelligence chief-turned-whistle-blower last month accused the department of blocking the report and directing analysts to play down the threat of violent white racism as well as Russian election interference to align the agency’s message with the president’s. But the final report appeared to do no such thing.
The threat assessment highlighted white supremacists as the most deadly among domestic terrorists in recent years and Russia as the primary threat to spreading disinformation.

“I am particularly concerned about white supremacist violent extremists who have been exceptionally lethal in their abhorrent, targeted attacks in recent years,” Chad F. Wolf, the acting secretary of D.H.S., wrote in the foreward to the assessment. The threat report also stated that “Russia is the likely primary covert influence actor and purveyor of disinformation and misinformation within the homeland.”

The agency also highlighted Iran and China’s cyberwarfare abilities and warned of a potential surge in migration to the southwest border.

The delayed release of the report has been a point of scrutiny for a department that has faced consistent accusations of morphing into a tool for Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign. After the department singled out domestic terrorists and specifically white supremacists in a terrorism framework in September 2019, the agency’s leadership committed to releasing a follow-up assessment to the threat as well as a blueprint to confront it within months. It took far longer.

Brian Murphy, who was demoted from his post as the Homeland Security Department’s intelligence chief in August, said last month in a whistle-blower complaint that Mr. Wolf and his deputy, Kenneth T. Cuccinelli, blocked the release of the assessment because of how it would “reflect upon President Trump.”
