Home Sweet Home

I've taken up a new hobby. House hunting!!!! The last couple of months, every Friday night, I google "houses for s.a.l.e in San Antonio." I'll spend the majority of the evening's commercial breaks perusing houses and making notes. Saturday and Sunday I go s.e.e them. I've fallen in love with 3 little houses in the downtown areas of surrounding small towns. One was built in the 30's, two in the 50's. One was gone before I even saw it, the realtor informed me. The 2nd house was pretty rough so I requested a walk through just to see what I'd be getting in to, but there wasn't a key in the lock box and the realtor couldn't get a hold of the seller.

The 3rd I found all on my own. It has no sign in the yard, no listing on the web, but it has a repossession notice taped to the door. It was kind of sad to read, dated April 4, in the middle of the shutdown. It named 3 people with the same last name, a man and 2 women, maybe a dad, mom, and ? Lost their little house to the pandemic.... little 1 car garage...... rotting trim around the window frames....corner lot with a big badass yard!!!!! A bigass shed in the backyard for my motorcycles and still plenty of room for a h.o.t tub and an above ground pool!!!! I emailed my realtor and he couldn't find any info anywhere, it's what they c.a.l.l. "shadow inventory". He told to get my c.a.s.h ready and as soon as it hits the market.....Voila!!!! (that's French for TaDaa!!)

Have you found any new hobby or interests during the pandemic?

this one needs a ton of work, but I can do most of it myself and once finished, it will be just what I want.

It's sad that so many have lost or will lose their homes because of this damned pandemic. I thought there was supposed to be a hold, though, on foreclosures or even evictions of renters. It may take a while if it's a foreclosure, but it could well be worth the wait.

Hmmmm....I know I left that wand around here somewhere!

Nope, no new hobbies. I have A LOT of time on my hands since my work ceased March 12 with no return in sight. It's given me time to work on 'decluttering' and posting more often on my blog.

I was thinking if the eviction came in April, they'd probably been in trouble for a while and the pandemic pushed things over the edge. I was sad about it until I saw the backyard.

I own my place and its repairs and upgrades are a weekly "hobby". Same goes for my cars, and bikes. But one of the bike projects is taking a big step forward. I found some CB550 engines for my Wards motor swap bike.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

No new hobbies for me...just picking up some old ones. If you get the house, I'll make you some schnapps!

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

talking to myself...
does that count?
i mean more than usual...
... although I've always talked to myself.
I guess it's not much of a hobby, when I think about it. In fact I shouldn't press enter and move along. Ahh... what the heck, I've already typed it. He probably won't read it anyway... I wonder if there's cheese in the fridge?

I have started talking to myself, too.

Well, I guess technically I’m talking to the TV set.

Thank you for the compliment. The time and effort spent putting the information and pictures together is worth it when others enjoy what I post

No new hobbies as I've had to work through the whole shut down.... I consider myself lucky, though. I like the little porch! It would look cute with some white wicker furniture and a bunch of flowers. I feel for the family, but congratulations on your find!

I wish you were closer, I've got some bikes I'd like to see go away, a 500 Shadow and a Husqvarna. When I closed my shop I wasn't able to reach the owners, but I think they'd make good parts bikes.

I thought my business would be affected... I repair specialized equipment that's used mostly in education. Apparently the lack of anything directly student-related to spend the last quarter's money on has meant that the Department of Social Services has decided to spend some on getting that specialized equipment fixed!!! I've been busier these past six weeks than I was the whole first six months of the year!

Looks ideal McMc, hope it works out. Will you still look meantime or hold out for this one?

I've been looking for a wee campervan for a relative, to the point where I stop in the street if I see one parked.......I've become a campervan stalker!!

Appreciate the thought, but it would be like enabling an addict. I have 2 bikes too many that I would like to turn into a little cash - a Yamaha FJ1200 and a Wards 175 (2 smoke)

That's great! Not many people can say they got busier.

I like a big porch, this one is big enough for my porch swing.

Yes, I'll keep looking. I may find something better. I was wanting to convert a shuttle bus into a mini RV, I'd forgotten that daydream.

i have not taken up a new hobby for covid. unless we count therapy. i've had a hard time coping with this perpetual aloneness. my hobby is dining out. and i moved to another part of the state to have a regular dining partner. but he has a 1950s built house. it needs A LOT of work. like a new roof. a new bathroom. new wiring. i see cracks in the ceiling and fallen paint on the floor. the house has original glass door knobs which we both love but don't work on a regular basis. what renovations will you do to your new place? oh... but the hardwood floors in this house are gorgeous.

I would love to find a nice fixer upper on a half acre of land. I'd love to put a hot tub in the backyard for starters.
