I recently spoke with an old friend, a very handsome and rugged 50 year old Marine Corps veteran.
He's going through a divorce and has spoken to me about his experience dating as a silver fox in this day and age.
He hasn't been single since 1989. No joke.
"I didn't know that dating is synonymous with 'fucking' now," he said.
"How do you mean?"
He went on to explain that the last he went with, he dropped her off home (who still does that?) and she was confused, saying, "Um, don't you want to come up?" He declined and bid her good night.
I explained that dating isn't synonymous with "fucking," it's just that sex on the first date is no longer the kiss of death as more of the generation pull away from conservative values.
On a general note, you have to admit that "holding off" is inherently a Christian way of doing things; i.e., placing too much value on a woman's chastity, allowing her sexuality to define her.
At least in America.
He said, "It's biological science that sex on the first date messes with your brain waves, making normally unacceptable behaviors completely acceptable just because you've had an orgasm with this person."
"No," I said. "It's pre-Tinder social science that makes a person think that way."
He went on to say that he doesn't value a woman less because she has sex on the first date, but it's impossible for him to feel like he's getting to know someone.
I mentioned that he's a lot like me (and he is), in that he can't enjoy sex with a person unless there's at least a tiny bit of connection.
But having said that, for the last four years, I've been living in a country where sex on the first date is quite normal if you like the person (and it has been this way for decades) and, in fact, when any sort of contact like that is made then it is assumed you are dating that person exclusively.
It's not a calculus exam.
Anyway, I don't miss dating in LA. Ha.

I'm living in Sweden and have been for the last couple of , on and off.
Recently moved in with my boyfriend who is just now breaking the surface of anything beyond vanilla sex. He's pretty awesome and he is tall, gorgeous, and Swedish - and close to me in age!
We're going to visit LA together soon, followed by Vegas, Maui, back to LA, then back to Sweden. I'm excited!
