Pumpkin Pie = Sex? Can it be true?

For all you ladies out there who have been spending hard-earned dollars trying to find the<b> fragrance </font></b>destined to drive your man wild, look no further than the kitchen.

A new study out of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago says the smell of pumpkin pie (with a bit of lavender mixed in) will increase sexual arousal in men faster than anything, including your favorite perfume.

Time to start that holiday baking?

Well, yes, if you're interested in hopping between the sheets after dessert.

Dr. Alan Hirsch, who conducted the study with colleague Dr. Jason Gruss, discovered that among 24 different scents (including perfumes) to which men, ages 18 to 64, were exposed during a double-blind test designed to measure penile blood flow following exposure to various odors, the scent of pumpkin pie and lavender increased arousal by 40 percent, the largest increase of any scent combination. Perfumes ranked way down the list at 3 percent.

Hirsch and his team originally conducted the test to determine how scent impacts sexual arousal and function. "We take care of patients here who have lost sense of smell due to head trauma," he told AOL Health. "Many of them lose their sexual function, and we wanted to know if it might be related to their sense of smell."

Hirsch has no idea why pumpkin pie and lavender top the list for inspiring male sexual arousal. "Maybe the odors remind men of girlfriends, wives, or childhood," he says. "Maybe the scent induces men to be more relaxed."

Why, indeed? The next highest ranking odors for inspiring warm feelings in males included the combined scent of doughnuts and black licorice, followed by pumpkin pie and doughnuts, then oranges. Cola and buttered popcorn make the cut too.

Age seems to play a role as well. Older men tended to favor vanilla. Cranberry offered the lowest sexual response, but there was still some arousal detected.

Hirsch says there is apparently very little in the way of food smells that turn a man off ... something to keep in mind while you're cooking up that Holiday dinners.
