Best Mom's Day Present Ever

I got a phone call one day last week. The moment she spoke I could hear the tension in her voice. I asked what was wrong. She sobbed into the phone. I said her name and again asked what was wrong.

"I couldn't take it anymore, after I got my bonus, I quit my job" she said. "I miss you so much, can I come home?"

Then I sobbed.

And I said, "of course you can."

What a perfect Mother's Day gift. My baby girl is moving home!

My is 25 years old. She holds a degree (suma cum laude) from a prestigious art school. Her degree is in photography.

My is somewhat shy. She lived with me for a while after she graduated from school. She couldn't find any photography job that she wanted. Birmingham isn't the artsy place to be. What made her think a small city in the midwest would be better, I dunno. One of her college roommates lived there so off she went. She's been gone for 2 years.

She worked at a portrait studio. She also had to talk people into buying lots of pictures. If she kept her sales up over 100 bucks a day each month for a year she'd get this big bonus.

She got 7 grand before taxes.

On the day last week when she called, this is what really broke my heart.... she said, " I haven't used my own camera in the past year." This from a young woman who has gone around with a camera back pack everywhere she went since the 7th grade.

She takes absolutely the best pictures I've ever seen that aren't published in a magazine or book. She has her own website. I'd try to post it here for you but I'd be afraid someone would tell her that they got her addy from a sex site.

Your kid has integrity, she will either make it big or be poor and get by, but either way she will be what she wants to be which is more than money can buy. tell her to get her camera back out and get busy promoting herself.

While it might not be an artsy type job, suggest she look at applying at the newspaper as a photographer. One of the guys I worked with took the greatest photos. There is more opportunity than people realize working for a paper. And it's a place she could get some hands on time with her own style added.

Enjoy her being around.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.
