I can't respond to IMs, or inbox anyone first!

I am so pleased to have some truly exciting people contacting me, but this stupid site will not allow me to open the IM feature yet, and I cannot inbox anyone first, it will only let me reply.

I am real, I am interested, PLEASE INBOX ME so that we can start talking!
