How do you live in todays society without an online presence???

trying to stretch my memory back to when I started chatting with people online. And wow it is something like 25 years ago..... that is a lifetime ago now.

I've always chatted with people online on a vast array of topics. Being able to hold a conversation is such a blessing to have, I know that there are many guys there that have no idea what to say....

It struck yesterday as I came across someone I hadn't seen for 25 years. He was a friend and still is a friend, but he has no online presence. How does one live in todays society without an online presence?

Social circles are much smaller..... dating? organising things? how does it work.....

What exactly do you mean by online presence ?

If I only used email, and eschewed everything else, would that count or not ?
I'd be 'online', ie using the www, but my presence would be apparent only to a handful of people.

Unlike, for example, being on Facebook, exposed to the entire world.

Hi [Hamonman]

are you suggesting you don't have an online presence?

as far as i know he just uses emails.... he never has bothered with social media, online dating, forums and the like.

Would you be searchable if you stopped using everything else?

Online presence to me would be a searchable and traceable set of footprints.

I try very hard NOT to have an on-line presence. It's not easy. I don't have a FB page/account. I don't tweet nor twitter nor follow anyone. I prefer things the old fashioned way, face to face. People I've met online on various sites are not true friends. They are merely acquaintances at best.
I hate that BIG BROTHER is watching my every move on the net. Yesterday I was searching for a pic of a mixer (for baking) and today I am bombarded with ads for deals on mixers. That's the sort of thing I am talking about when I say Big Brother is always watching. It's not only annoying but an invasion of my privacy.

And sometimes not all people want to be easily found nor accessible (searchable and traceable). But perhaps that's just my personality.

I know what you mean about Big Brother watching you. I do find that so creepy even when you talk about a topic with someone in person and you then start seeing ads related to that topic. So creepy. Marketing at its dirtiest.

I understand not everyone wants to be found or traced. Thank you

I don't use any of the Apps like instagram or twitter.. I only use FB and it took me a long time to upload a profile on that and obviously I'm on here and have tried other dating sites in the past. I think life without the internet would be very slow.. I like being able to do my banking online without having to queue at the bank.. I wouldn't say being online is an absolute neccesity... yet!
but it helps speed things up!
As an FYI .. you need to put a comment or an emoji on your own blog to have it come up in the main blog feed

Agreed life without the internet would be dull.... I for one have had a lot of fun times online which has also translated to a hellava lot of fun in person.

I've stayed away from Tweeting and Graming.....i find that too fake and opinionated.

Thank you for the advice I will put up a pic so my blog shows up on the main feed.

You don't really need an online presence to meet and get to know people or maintain friendships. Real friendships last the years and whilst they take effort to maintain I personally find them more rewarding than the surface engagement you get online- Instagram for instance gives such a distorted view of how people live their lives and unfortunately this can create a lot of issues for impressionable people

Oh i quite agree with your comment regarding Instgram, so fake and distorted. I do much prefer real friendships and being able to sit down over a coffee to chat about anything and everything
