the trees watching us

the trees watching us
written December 29th, 2020

we walk down the old logging road
the trees watch us pass
noting our presence
our comfort with each other

we make our way to the small stream
and sit on its banks
listening to the sound as it flows past
bouncing over rocks and roots as it goes

i sit with you and listen
to the sounds all around us
and if i listen closely enough
i can hear the trees watching us

whispering to each other about their day
wondering what we will bring
as we pass through their stationary world
their roots entwined under the ground

i feel you beside me
my leg resting against yours
i take ahold of your arm
and lean against you

with you, here
i am at peace
watching the trees
watching us.

All the trees
Have a story to tell
For year to come
The old and the new
To the ones not there yet
Walk through the leave
The trees have left
Set on the ground
Feel the sun on your face
For the tree absorb it's warmth
As a blanket keep you warm.

Walking the woods
With my one and only
Clasped hands swaying
As a cool winter wind
Sends shivers throughout
All that resides within
This desolate forest

Where once the Green
Flourished and thrived
Now stand silent sentinels
Survivors of flame and frost
Tangled branches sprouting
New signs of regeneration
Two visitors both witnesses
To the resilience of nature

Turning to look at her
She returns a gaze
Unspoken recognition
How our circumstances
Reflect that of carnage
Equally beautiful and wild
We are all alike it seems

Needing to be reborn
After suffering calamity
She and I more stronger
Than before as does
Lone bark encrusted
Harbingers of renewal
Long spilling branches
Touched by flecks
Of warm sunlight
In this cool winter day

No words needed
As the breeze whispers
Encouragement to us all
“This too you shall endure”
Sudden calm envelopes
My one and only and myself
And the trees as well
Touching the infinite
We are resolute in silence

My name is MrWrong and I approved this comment

Maybe some day, I will have a poem for you in response, but it just does not seem to be how my mind works. I have trained it for so long, to stay silent around others. Thank you for reading me, and responding. I am touched!
