Joyeux Noel........ i was thinking about Christmases from the past and one came to mind and sent me into reverie. i was living in France then in a tiny saracen village called ramatuelle and my window overlooked the vineyards, down to the mediterranean and on a clear day, i could see the swiss alps. because of the architecture of the village (built in a coil) the outer windows were a good 5' deep and i could sit there comfortably, sipping my morning coffee. the villagers were not all that happy to have an american there and it had taken all summer for them to accept me. when they did - it was like i was family. that morning, sitting on the sill, i could hear the bells of the chapel and i watched as people walked up the hill. they called out Joyeux Noel and i called back to them, each in their turn. i was invited to Madame DuPlonc's for dinner and after i had opened my gifts from my lover, we wandered up to her place past all the tiny doors in the inner coil. hearing music and laughter from the homes as we passed. walking in, guido the village misanthrope grabbed me in his arms and danced me off to the music. it was a feast and as we all sat to table, Madame asked that each of us name the person that was missing from the table. the room stilled as we all thought of loved ones far away, of those who had passed over, or who were lost to us for whatever reason. when she came to me, my eyes filled and i whispered Merry Christmas Mama. it was still another year before i came home to the States. for all of us who find themselves apart from those we love this holiday....they're right there with you.....just close your eyes.... feel that? that's them, loving you. merry christmas we You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

beautiful story as usual WE. i find myself without my youngest boy. He has gone to spend the holidays with His grandparents in Kansas. and though i gave Him the option of going, now i am feeling quite selfish and wish He was here with me. last year all 4 of my children were away. this year, only Him. i love You S .. mom. thanks WE and i love You too Sis  Merry Christmas

Thank you, WE. I've been without my family for a long time and miss them so much during the holidays. But with the help of your words, I closed my eyes, and could see them there behind me--Mom, Dad, my Brother, Grandma and Grandpa, surrounding me, and I could feel them loving me, still. And always. I know this is a difficult time for you as well, with your Mother's illness. I wish for you a lovely and loving Christmas with your Mother. Cherish every moment. As Sissy and the family cook today i was reading this post. Thank you my friend. And here is to my own mama...and to those who will not be waiting any dinners or for any to share blessings with this day...my prayers be to those lost as i was this time last year. May God/Godess grace them with the F/friends i have found here that helped get me through this past year. *hugs and warmest wishes* chelley.
