fear - symposium entry.

i had a very different post for this. one about my childhood. but in a way, this is the same thing. i find myself unable to sleep and with no parents bed to slide under and my snoring away, the night seems to gather strength against me.

Lindo my darling, your FB post of the US mass shootings was enough to stop the heart - a mass shooting is 4 or more victims. The USA has had 358 in the last 275 days according to the report. The news doesn't even cover them anymore.

And if it weren't for the group "policethepolice", you'd never see the madness going on there either. I post them to my FB page daily.

we have a travel ban because terrorists might infiltrate our borders. HA.

they are already here my loves. and oh, we know them. they are us. in fact, we've made sure that they have the latest and most powerful guns they can get. and if by chance, those guns aren't legally available, why you can buy them at a gun show or over the internet. UPS delivers.

i once terminated an employee for having a rifle at work. his claim was it was a black powder rifle and harmless. could it kill an elk? why yes it could. Unemployment gave hims 26 weeks coverage since black powder rifles weren't specifically noted in out handbook.

for everyone who was shot in Vegas by an American terrorist, by guns that nobody should have access to, i promise...we will fight for you and your families. and i am so very sorry that we didn't get this done sooner.

such a beautiful country we live in. why are we so bent on destroying her? for those who are in the fight, resist, persist. for those who aren't...join us. Make America safe again.

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

The "terrorists" are not just ISIS. We have done much of this to ourselves

I saw another post which gave definitive statistics on gun ownership, deaths by gun per head, many more stats, and the US topped every single one by some considerable way.

The irony that trump would ban the people of Yemen (54 guns per capita) from travelling to the US (88 guns per capita) has not escaped me.

This insanity needs to stop, there can be no possible justification for it. How many members of the elite establishment (in the swamp that trump was going to drain) have been murdered in a mass killing. I suspect the number might be zero...........

Oops, soap-box moment over.............!

WARNING: Cynic Alert!!!!

If nothing was done after Sandy Hook, when children were murdered in their schools, nothing will be done now, or ever.

Mass shootings, especially those with the highest body count, are great for business. Yesterday the stock prices of gun manufacturers went up as news of the killings spread. The report I heard cited two reasons. The first one was fear. Whenever there is a shooting people buy guns for protection. The other is fear of legislation that will limit the ability of people to buy guns.

So, if you truly want to do something about these killings you have to come up with enough money to pay off the senators and representatives who rely on the gun lobby for campaign contributions. Basically, outbid the NRA.

I don't see this happening anytime soon, if ever. I'm just considering these shootings as a sort of "natural disaster". There's nothing that will be done about it, like a hurricane or tornado. So, we here in the good 'ol US of A (the greatest country in the world (or so I've been told. Repeatedly.) are unfortunate enough to live in one of the few countries subjected to this natural disaster.

Sorry for the cynicism, but yesterday, while this was all over the news, a close family member was most upset about what Hillary said about the NRA. Never mentioned anything else, just Hillary picking on the NRA. And that, in my neck of the woods, is the consensus.

Excellent post!

We will never make progress until we end gerrymandering, I'm afraid. But I do have hope.

Nothing is ever going to change, until the 2nd Amendment is amended further.

My money is on that never happening.

As long as we continue to be as divided by everything as we currently are, there will be no change. Things will only continue to get worse, until the day that the good ol' boys club up in DC decide that they need to step in and "save us from ourselves". The change we seek comes with unification and people standing together. We are currently divided by gender, race, financial status, sexual preference....I don't see anything changing until we ourselves learn to compromise. And being born in the South? I just don't see it happening. The Sheriff in my hometown just waived county fees for and is offering free classes to anyone who wants to obtain a conceal/carry permit.

From afar America's fixation with guns seems strange as America gained independence from Britain centuries ago!

I agree. The availability of such powerful weapons is not necessary. But I do believe in a handgun to protect one's home, but should be kept safely away from children.
The availability of guns like anything else is a profit-making business. Those who profit from their sales don't care about its consequence.
