Go for Gold???

A relative rookie……I have been a standard member on Senior Sizzle since the fall. While down south for a few months, I rarely logged in but now I am back and on the site frequently and at the point when I feel I should decide whether or not to<b> bite </font></b>it and upgrade. Plus there’s a special if I act now!!! (marketing urgency, love it)
I have been on my own now for almost two years (widowed after 34 yrs of marriage), am lonely and crave company, intimacy, what have you. While only interested in a single on-going relationship, I would also like to make other friends with like interests (sex, looking at pictures of naked people etc.).
Most useful to me so far has been the blogs………lot of interesting stuff and people and the occasional picture of naked people. I have learned a bit more about the site thru some of these blogs but still have all sorts of questions. I am hoping by starting my own blog, I can get answers to those questions, learn more about this site (my first experience with anything like this, a unique culture??) and ultimately with all that and other feedback, make my mind up whether or not to upgrade to gold.
So, hopefully anyone and everyone who reads this and following posts can help me out. I would appreciate any feedback and help – many thanks in advance!
First question – being a free standard member seems to allow me to read blogs, look at hot photos, search but only see bits of profiles, but not be able to communicate with anyone. Oh, and the occasional message to me from people whose profile is not in my interest/age categories but seemingly out of the blue, thousands of miles away, and I can’t respond (if in fact they have really reached out to me).
Am I missing something? Anything else I can be doing? Thanks folks…….

 Author51 - thanks. I have enjoyed your blog posts and appreciate the tip. I have seen the additional comment by the poster and wondered why they do that...
Given your suggestion for perhaps not upgrading, are there features of this site I am nor using/aware of for standard members? Appreciate anything you can suggest (and your time).
