With the middle son yesterday. We had a nice chat, I always found it easier to talk to him rather then my oldest son, or my daughter for some reason? I guess out of the three of them he is more like me. The daughter is a lot like her mother, and my oldest son..well he's a heck of a lot smarter than I am and sometime talks over my head.

My talk with the son was about the troubles he's having finding people to work at the Pub he manages for his brother out in Montana. Try as he might with perks, high wages and even housing. He just can't get people to fill the jobs. The line cook positions he has are making almost twice what I'm getting hourly. Hell, the dishwasher he just hired makes more than I do. The thing is, out there jobs are easy to come by, and the people can make even more than what he's got to pay them to keep them around. The stress of the situation has him on edge, and he needed this vacation home. Heck, the owners, and his brother told him to take a vacation, well made him take one really.

I think if he could just get people to stay on after he's hired them he'd be okay. But it's hard to keep people when they can make more doing less at another job. Perhaps when they make the move and open up the second place in the states capitol things might be easier in finding workers..having a larger pool of people looking for work that he can hire. The town he's at now is smallish..less than five thousand people. A rural setting, a place where there are no stop signs or traffic lights...you get the picture.

Any way when had a nice visit, and a good lunch. I'll see him again before he leaves to drive back to Montana ( he's glad he has his car back, says it's a smoother ride then using his brothers second ride, a beat up pick up truck ) With his car back he might even get out more to do things..perhaps meet someone? That's another thing we talked about, in his thirties, he can see time fast going by.. I think he wants to settle down with a nice woman and maybe start a family. His last SO, who still lives in town here has been out to visit him six times since he's been out there...but she's unwilling or unable to make the move to join him. Maybe when he makes the move to the bigger town things will change? As a dad, I told him..that he's got a lot of living to do yet before he has those kinds of regrets, that there is still time for family and a good life yet to come. You never know what's around the corner....

I'm off to shower now.....

It's impossible to get people to work locally. Every business I see has a Help Wanted sign. I feel for your son. Have a great day!
