Okay who doesn't like a good doughnut every now and again? Trouble is all the local places were put out of business when the big guy rolled into town. Krispy Kream virtually took over when they moved in. Even selling their product at the local grocery stores and mini-marts. Well with the glut on the market there was bound to be some slippage in product quality wise. A few of the little guys who were still struggling and trying to get their footing back that had managed to hang on have won the fight. That's right starting Wednesday the local mini-marts will no longer be selling the big guys product, but rather one of the local guys Doughnuts.

I for one am happy about it. Personally I didn't care for all the sugar plastered onto K.K. doughnuts. Eating one felt like you were spooning sugar into your mouth with every bite. Even for me a sweets junkie, it was too much. Frankly I prefer the plain cake doughnut to any other type. You know the ones, often called cider doughnuts, or sinkers, the kind you can dunk in your coffee and not worry about a sugar overload. A "fancy" every now and again is good as well. One with a cream, or jelly center. Any who just a little up date on the doughnut wars around here, I'm looking forward to buying a good doughnut for my Saturday morning me time when I sit down with a hot cup of coffee and do the morning crossword puzzles.

As I said in yesterday's blog I didn't watch the big game. So I have no idea who won or lost. I didn't even don my Buc's jersey. ( a gift from a red head I knew from Fla. ) It stayed in the closet all day long. I opted for watching H.G.T. V in the morning and then the Hobbit movies in the afternoon and evening. I went to bed early, and dreamed about being a roadie for a band... which I did in my younger days with a local rock band. Any who we were setting up at the local Mall of all places in an eatery, that was as dead as a grave yard. Funny thing that eatery hasn't been in the mall for decades, closed down a few years after the Mall opened in fact, replaced by a McDonald's. Any who in the dream i started arguing with the ex wife, why she was there is beyond me as I didn't even know her back when I did the roadie thing. Realizing this, the dream sort of fell apart after that.

Oh well, time to jump in the shower now.....

Ever since one particular Big Box closed here ! Out of the other 4 Mom & Pop stores that were still open and not counting the grocery store bakeries ! I really do MISS their French Crullers ! I've been told that it takes a particular skill to make those that most doughnut makers find hard to master

I'm with you - I like plain donuts best. In season, the apple cider donuts at the farmstands are excellent. Krispy Kreme opened here about 10 years ago, in direct competition with Dunkin Donuts, and I remembered everyone being so excited. After seeing the boring, shiny donuts, I'm not sure what they were excited about. They went out of business within 2 years.

Elevate me...

Krispy came to Oklahoma with great fanfare. They hired off duty police to handle the traffic issues. Then the new wore off and they all shut down one by one. There is only one left in Oklahoma City. My DIL loves it. I prefer the little mom and pop store in the town about 10 miles from us. Their glazed yeast donuts melt in your mouth. They also sell a cinnamon sugar cake donut that calls to me far too often
