Okay, I know women like shoes...but how many pairs of sneakers do you really need? Cleaning out the eviction unit yesterday, bathroom closet floor is lined two feet deep with sneakers. There must have been at least two hundred pair in there. Most still attached together with that little plastic do-hickey thing they use to keep them together at the store. Proving that most of them were never worn. Oh, and they weren't the cheep-O brands but all famous label stuff. Food packed in to the fridge, and freezer, bottles of Booze, and cans upon cans of Hard seltzer. A brand new couch and love seat left sitting in the living room. Bottles of bathroom cleaning stuff ( none of them opened or ever used, the bathroom looked like an out house ) Bags and bags of clothing left sitting in the dining room. Dishes, pots and pans, silverware, drinking glasses, plastic cups, wine glasses, a waffle maker, A George Foreman grill, neither of them ever used. Cat food, cat litter ( both used and un used ) I think the only things they took out of that place when the tenant came back to clean it out this weekend were the beds they slept in.

Junk that they didn't use and really didn't need left behind. Funny, part of the reason they were ousted was because they never paid their rent on time and got way behind. You'd think that if just maybe they held off buying so much crap, and put that money towards paying their rent every month they could still be living here. I don't know, you'd think that an educated person would have more sense? ( the woman who lived there was/is a working nurse ) It's an addiction I suppose? Sad really, sadder still is most if not all of that stuff we'll be tossing in the dumpster. For the couch and love seat we'll call the Goodwill people to come pick that up, if they will take it? Trouble is the unit is on the second floor, and most times the Goodwill / Salvation Army folks don't want to work that hard carrying the stuff down two flights of stairs to get it street side to load it on their trucks. When I think of all the folks doing with out, those who can't afford to buy the basics during these troubled times we are living in, well the whole thing just pisses me off to no end. Most of them would be thrilled to have that stuff, stuff that the departing tenant felt it wasn't worth taking. It wasn't worth their time to pack up and move out of there when they were given the chance to do so this past weekend.

When did we as Humans become so idiotic? What happened to us? My parents were raised during the tail end of the Depression, Hell, I can remember my Nanny - Ma saving bacon grease on the stove top to use as a cooking oil and washing her tin foil to use again. Those who have lived through hard times knew the value of things. They knew that you didn't buy something just because. You bought it because you needed it and had to scrimp and save to do so. You made due with what you had and improvised when you didn't have it. Bread pudding made from left over and stale bread became a treat, and IMHO a damn tasty one at that. With this Pandemic, I think a lot of people are going to have to relearn a hard lesson, one their parents and Grand parents learned all too well. A lesson I'm thankful that my family taught me. I guess that's why I don't like shopping that much. If I need it, really need it. I go and buy it, but most times I really don't need it. I can do with out, to get the things that matter, pay a bill that needs paying, or just save my cash for a rainy day. The storm clouds are gathering my friends, and it looks like a bad one. The silliness is starting once more...stores out of Toilet Paper, cleaning products, their reducing the amounts you can buy in some places. Wake up, you don't need to hoard the toilet paper etc. Save some for the other guy, we're all in this together and it'd be nice if we all had clean assholes while were doing it.

Off to shower now....

I was just watching Hoarders the other night... lol
Shopping IS an addiction for some, I guess, but not for me. I was raised the same way you were. If you didn't NEED it, you didn't buy it. My Grandma used to wash tin foil and paper plates. Wow. That brings me back.
On a positive note, maybe the garbage dudes will take advantage of the free stuff, and it won't all go to waste.

Have a great day, and be nice to one another.

Nanny-Ma never used paper plates, didn't believe in them. Even on picnics she took her daily dishes to use. As for our garbage pick up guy, he never even gets out of his truck. Just dumps the bins and he's off again. We have a few guys who come by looking for scrap metal, but they only want the metal. hey go so far as to cut the power cords off anything electrical rather then take the whole thing. Have a good one.

I know right? I just don't get it? Somewhere along the way we lost the ability to think. Have a good one.

It's a shame there's not a company/non-profit who would do eviction/foreclosure cleanouts and then either donate or auction (like the storage unit places do) the stuff... especially when so much of it is unused and people are in need.

Yes it is a shame. Thing is we can't wait around for someone to come do the clean outs and such. As it is the unit in question has already been rented and we need to get into shape for the next tenant. Have a good one.

How sad!
You are right that people are back to hoarding TP. The shelves were cleared when I was in the store. I missed the memo to buy it all last week.

I still save bacon grease though I keep it in the fridge. I hang clothes outside on a line. I reuse and repurpose whenever I can. I do not understand people being so wasteful.

The son has me stocked. Bought some before he left for Montana. He liked to buy in those big box store places, where they sell in bulk. I have enough on hand till after New Years.

i have TP in the apt. it's not a full pack.
i might venture out to the store today.
i'm supposed to go holiday food shopping tomorrow but we are already low on staples like milk and cereal...

You would thin there would be somebody who would want a new sofa and loveseat and the other items. Can you post an ad on CL or FB Marketplace when you put it to the curb? I'm a 'garbage-picker' from way back!

Elevate me...

The sofa and love seat someone in the building took. So it all worked out. Have a good one.
