Yes, with Thanksgiving fast approaching I've got pie on the brain. Every year I make a special trip to a local bakery for said pie. It's a small place been in business since the nineteen thirties. It's rare to find any place in a town my size still going strong after so many years. I go there not only to support their business but because it's the only place in town where you can find Elderberry Pies. Why Elderberry? Glad you asked, as a little kid I would often wander in the woods near my house and in my wanderings would find the elusive berries growing wild and just eat the little treasures right off the bush. Much to the annoyance of the local bird population. So, the taste of an elderberry pie always takes me back to a simpler time in my life to a place where the cares and worries of today's world fade in the distance.

It's a silly escape I know. You really can't turn back the clock, if you could I think we'd all turn it back to twenty-nineteen and give twenty-twenty a miss. Lets face it the year hasn't been a stellar one what with the Pandemic, storms hitting our Southern coasts in record numbers, and the west coast on fire. Now a second wave of the virus rears it's ugly head bringing with it another possible lock down. More people becoming ill with it and leaving us long before they should. No wonder I look to escape the reality that faces us with a treat from my past. Something to ease my troubled mind and calm my thoughts.

I know after finishing that slice of pie the world will still be the same, the nightmare that has become our reality will still be with us...but for that brief moment I can feel like I once did,and that everything will be okay.

Off to shower now....

And don't forget Elderberry wine, the potent potable (a tip of the hat to Alex Trebec) and the song by Elton John.

I've never tried the wine. Wine isn't my favorite libation. Have a good one.

I've never had elderberry pie, but I like your reasoning.
For me, it's strawberry rhubarb pie that takes me back.

Elevate me...
