Afire , but not consumed. All manner of spooky creatures (Witches, sprites, ghouls and the like ) Looking out my bedroom window I saw them dancing round it howling at the moon in my backyard. The dream or vision was so real...I woke up in a cold sweat. Unable to return to my slumber.

A brief a dream as it was, I still remember it to this day. As a kid Halloween was a favorite time of year for me. Tricks-or-treats, thinking about what I'd wear for my costume, the parties I'd be going to, the planning our route for the big night with my friends. All of it was great fun. But there is a scary side to Halloween. One I didn't think of too much when I was a kid. Focusing on the fun things I'd tend to forget that Halloween was derived from All Hallow's Eve. A night when spooks, and the like roam the earth. Dressing in costume was a way ( or so they say ) of fooling the spooks and the minions that were doing the roaming. If your costume proved good enough you could fool the spirits.. and be safe.

The dream, or vision as I have come to think of it now that woke me on Halloween night as a kid, brought they scary side of the holiday home to me. The fright passed, as things go when your a kid. But the dream, or vision remained in the back of my mind. At the time it seemed so real, the feeling of being caught spying on something that I should not have seen in the first place. A dance meant only to be witnessed by those who the night really belonged to.

Perhaps it wasn't a dream, perhaps it was real? As a young lad I was often found wandering about still asleep, or half asleep. Perhaps I did stumble onto something I wasn't supposed to see while doing my own roaming when I should have been tucked into my bed asleep? The thing that really got me was those scary beings in attendance saw me, and knew I saw them. But with a nod from the head spook in charge I was dismissed..he'll not remember he said, and if he does he''ll think it was only a dream. With that ... I awoke..standing next to my bed.. yeah I moved the curtains on my bedroom window aside to check...afraid they'd still be out there. But the night had passed, the pumpkin and dancers had gone. The sun just coming up on the new day..a light frost covering the ground where the dancers had been. But I could swear I saw foot tracks on the frosty ground......left by a group of revelers having fun on their night.

Off to shower now....

yrs ago myself and a couple of co workers decided to trick or treat at our boss' house and other unsuspecting co workers. We were having so much fun because no one could guess who we were and it freaked out some of the ladies. It was late when we got to our boss' and he was not very welcoming. He says" pretty big boys to be out trick or treating aren't you?" We hadn't spoken a word but I noticed he had balled up his fists and I nudged one of the others to warn them. We were kind of thrown off by his tone and stance and scared to do anything which made him even madder. We finally decided to just run like hell and he was hollering after us. We laughed so hard when we got out of sight. The next day we made everyone else promise not to tell that we had visited him and every one got a great laugh about the "punks who he put the chase to" the night before. I don't think I went out trick or treating again after that except to take my kids out. SO glad he thought his visitors were boys ,lol
