I was in the service biz for many years, carried a pager long before cell phones! By the early nineties pay phones were getting hard to find, especially one that worked!
Convenience stores started out as Ice Houses, before people had refrigerators in their homes, they had "ice boxes", and had to buy ice everyday! The Ice Houses realized people coming by everyday needed other things, bread, milk, eggs and the like, things u had to go the grocery store for! So they started selling the everyday stuff!
Very good thinking because as soon as mechanical refrigeration was developed "Ice Houses" quickly disappeared!

The good old days.......long gone.... bye!

I never went in for the pager fad. I do remember my first mobile phone though. It was the size of a brick, and weighed twice as much. I don't remember ice boxes, though we had several Ice houses in the area once upon a time. Big business here what with the free lake ice every winter.
