I believe it should be some explanation in late first rent check. Some time it is not clear till what day you have to pay . Or paycheck comes late, or something else might happened..... Hopefully wont happened again.

I'm sure there is some explanation. When a new tenant sits down with the property manager to sign their lease, it usually takes an hour or so to go over all the why's, when's and all those pesky questions you have about renting here. During that time, they are told when the rent is due ( the first of the month, except when the first falls on a holiday, and even then we have a drop box for them to drop off their rent checks) and is late by the fifth of the month. Meaning they actually have till the fifth to get their rent in or face late charges after that, which is usual standard practice in the industry. When I post late notices it's usually two to three weeks after the first of the month. Because the tenant moved in before the end of the previous month the boss probably pro-rated those days having them pay only a portion of that months rent, and usually when the boss does that it confuses people, them thinking they'd all ready paid the rent they needed too. Hopefully it won't happen again. I hate posting those notices, I feel like such a bastard when I have to do it.
