In my book, a hot dog isn't a sandwich. A sandwich involves slices of bread and a filling or topping. A hot dog is a sausage in a roll. There may be some transatlantic confusion about words here. English sandwich may be different to an Ameriocan sandwich.

I am with CleavageFan4U in that I have never even thought to question that it might not be a sandwich. To me a sandwich is some sort of protein, usually meat, cheese or peanut butter between some kind of bread. If it is only vegetables between that bread then it is NOT a sandwich. I am not sure how a hot dog can not be a sandwich. If you say it is not then a Hoagie or Sub is not a sandwich either and then you have Chaos. If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin." I always behave. Preferably not well.

I never considered this, but a sandwich is ingredients between bread soooooo technically YES!!! So are the Senior Sizzle courts going to sentence these criminals who incorrectly hang their paper and have no respect for pineapple?

I think it IS a sandwich. It’s meat in bread. Defending this, I bring up a popular sub sandwich shop. They do not slice the bread all the way through. It envelopes the ingredients. Is a pita pocket a sandwich? Traditional po’ boys are similar in build also. I like my hotdog sandwiches with a little mustard, just a spritz of ketchup, chili, cheese, diced onions and sometimes diced jalapeños! If it’s deemed not a sandwich, then what is it? To paraphrase W C Fields a hot dog is a 'tubed steak'. That said . . . hamburgers are on buns and referred to by some as a hamburger sandwich. Glad to have cleared that up for you.  When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Your Honor, BJ here, representing the Association for Sandwich Sovereignty and the Holistic Order of Luncheon Etiquette. A hot dog is NOT a sandwich. A sandwich consists of two separate pieces of bread. Hot dog bun sides are attached to each other. Subs are also not sandwiches since they are also made on buns whose sides are attached to each other. However, hamburgers ARE sandwiches because their buns have a top and a separate bottom. I rest my case. I eat my hot dogs plain ... I love naked wieners. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

a hot dog is just a hot dog just like a hamburger is a hamburger you dont call it a hamburger sandwich they both might be on a bun but we must stop trying to redefine everything this world is already fucked up by the woke generation. and if you from that generation as they say in the south well bless your heart.

The all knowing wikipedia definition includes: ". . . any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type." So it could contain veggies and there is no requirement that it be two separate pieces of bread. Gyro anyone?
