Tribulation Ending (September 2003 Poem)

A man sits
in silent darkness,
the bright sun
shining down upon
his bronze skin
and rusty hair,
which is rustling
as the low breeze
sifts through it.
His dull pepper eyes
gaze down at
the brilliant green
grass blankly
as birds,
red and blue,
chitter and hop
lazily around him
seeking out bugs.
His slack body
shows not the
monumental struggle
now taking place within
the cavernous depths
of his roiling,
unconcious mind,
and his concentration
is scattered
like the leaves
blown downwind
to lay around him,
fallen from decaying
trees will ever
give him no shade.
His chest rises steeply
as the cool air rushes
into the smallest
crevices of his lungs,
his eyes shining
from within as
the processes
of dichotomy
reach their conclusions
in complete simultaneity.
His chest falls slowly
as the warm air
whispers from his lungs,
his life's final breath
spent in contentment.
