 You apparently don't know how friendship works.... if you can't meet with the person, and spend actual time , offline, with them, then you don't have a "Friend"...you have an "Acquaintance".

The point is to get you to buy a membership.

 I'm not sure there's a point to "Friend" someone even if you do have a Gold Membership. Are they keeping in touch with you, are you with them...really anything in common?

Usually the answer is , "No".... most of the time "Other peoples names" on a persons profile under "Friends" is meaningless. To go dark on this for a moment.. next time you hear of a person on social media committing suicide, wonder how many "Friends" listed ,they had. Bet you they had many listed, but knew personally, none of them.
