It costs $6,946.19 per hour to fly and the flight time for the Guam trip was about 35 hours for a total cost of $243,1.65. Modly's resignation came just over a week after Capt. Brett Crozier, the then-commanding officer of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, sent a memo warning of coronavirus spreading among the sailors on the aircraft carrier. The memo leaked, prompting Modly remove Crozier from command and fly Guam address the ship in remarks that included calling Crozier "stupid." While not explicitly mentioning Modly or his resignation, the Navy's top admiral, Chief of Naval Operation Adm. Mike Gilday, sent a message to the Navy on Wednesday acknowledging that "the events of the past week have been difficult for our Navy and our nation." "The events of the past week have been difficult for our Navy and our nation. We will learn from them. But make no mistake, we are moving forward. The Navy has our orders and we are executing them," Gilday wrote. Two-hundred eighty- sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for coronavirus and 93% of the ship's crew have been tested as of Wednesday, according the Navy. Nearly a week after Modly fired Crozier for too widely disseminating a memo calling for the urgent evacuation of the ship's crew, the Navy has only evacuated 2,329 of the aircraft carrier's nearly 4,800 sailors. The Navy initially said that it had intended to move 2,700 sailors ashore by April 3. Officials say the process has been slowed due to testing as the government of Guam is requiring that sailors test negative before they can be moved into hotels on the island. |

There's really nothing new about government officials wasting money. lets not forget the multitudes of empty office spaces all over D C ,the country and the world that receive phantom payrolls during countless administrations for years. Running and winning a seat in congress is the fastest way to become a millionaire! 243,165 dollars sounds like a navy dry cleaning tab! Using more than all the road!

Then all of the crew that does not have it have been tested. The 7% that have don't need to be tested.

1) When I was in the Army they taught us that because of large number of troops living in close quarters under less than ideal conditions that more troops die of disease than from combat injuries. This can have a serious impact on unit readiness. 2) I also believe that it is a court martial offense to do something that publicly embarrasses the military because it affects morale which affects combat readiness. So technically Capt Crozier was wrong to make his concerns public like he did but he may have felt it was something he had to do especially if the people who should have listened weren't. 3) I was also taught in the Army that you should reward in public, reprimand in private. So Modly was wrong in the public comments that he made about Capt Crozier. 4) This may be a sex site but that doesn't mean that we should only blog about sex. If you look around there are a lot of non sexual blog postings that aren't political either, so why aren't you complaining about those as well? Please don't let me be misunderstood.

I hope we are never at war and a ship has to take a time out. Having served on ships in the navy . You cannot just remove people the mission the operation of a ship has to continue. This ship has nuclear reactors and weapons plus service that have to be maintained. No captain leader would purposely leak a chain of command letter on purpose and not expect to be removed for cause. This is what you get in a watered down navy- military. Should we actually have to fight and i mean fight not sit off the cost and send planes i wonder how many would call out to go to their safe space. The virus has been shown to react very limited to young health people. If this was the Flu would you hear about it. We got bad water one time and the whole crew had the shits for a week did we pull in and ask extra portapotties. To blame trump for his actions. what a wasted he did it not Trump !! He is responsible for his actions!!. Should the Secretary said what he did not in public!! . He should have called him in on the carpet as the said it and reassigned as they would if he had hit another ship and hurt people. Now the crew is ruined they might as well take them all off in port and reassemble a new one the chain of command has be damaged for ever. By people who do not understand the mission of the military go read history on situations way worse that this . But then again you probable grew up with a spoon in your mouth.
