the more we connect

the less connected we become...
she looked like she was in her early thirties. he did not look much older. they sat across from each other, eyed locked, fingers dancing.
the little girl lost in her coloring, her younger brother squealing and table hopping.
in the half hour i was there the parents never took their eyes off their smartphones. not to talk to each other
not to see if their were there
not to attend to the one crying
strange how the world sees this as normal, going out in public not to interact in person

It really is sad that communication has been lost to technology..lol kind of ironic yes? i never ever take my cell phone to any place where i am gonna interact with the public..it stays in my vehicle..I am glad that i have one but use it for when i need it..I love talking to people and its part of the old school way of interaction..and of course those far away we need to contact it is sometimes good to have texting ..but there is nothing like face to face communication..

such a sad observation....something we have all seen im sure. Some have even participated in a similar scenario. The newer generation thinks that digitally connected is connected...and i guess it is in a sense, but it shouldnt take the place of actual human connected without the device being the connector. Ive often said same about the written language....no more letters...thank you notes....snail mail. Its all digitally enhanced with spell check and the like and sent thru the ether wires of the www. Things have and will continue to change, we must roll with it....or become left behind. A sad commentary ...indeed ~~

The NOW generations have to have instant gratification. All this tech is going not only to kill society but we will lose our vocabulary. My cell phone never goes with me- it stays in the car. It's for my convenience. And I think we all have seen the scenario where every person at a table is glued to their phones or tablet

sadly true...but i do not have to figure it out.
i have had friends and family "chat" with me via texts. it took months but they soon learned that i talk, not write on a phone.
so yes the world is changing, and we can force them to accept our ways

i agree with you all. the point i was making the four family members sitting at the table were not interacting. not the parents with their kids. not the sister with the brother.
the brother, who was no more then three was so hungry for attention/affection did not stop crying, and running from table to table...

People may be different. Addiction may come in many different forms. I could go on-an-on about these subjects. But people, habits, and/or addictions may be horrid, deadly, or in some instances - maybe even healthy to some degree. There are some people that are absolutely addicted to exercise or running. Make no mistake - it may be a drug to them.

What you describe though, at that dinner table - I would view as addiction, an illness. I'd bet some people understand what some forms of addiction, and/or illness can do to people, and families. Children growing up with addict parents - it's not often without detrimental effects to the children. And not just while they are children.

Being able to live in the moment though, is a good thing. Not with your face in your phone, being someplace else - even when you are with others.

I personally do not like such behavior and do not mind telling the parents so if I am out in public truing to enjoy my self... I will first mention it to the establishment, and if that does not work my huge loud mouth will.... An I have found it to work very well to bring everyone's attention to their own families as well....

Not! The way it should be! live is to short to be miserable!

Sally
