OH GOD...OH GOD...OH GOD!

We were married only a couple of years when I noticed these magazines showing up once a month called "Victory Magazine".

I didn't think anything of it until we were discussing finances one day. It turns out this magazine was published by a televangelist organization called "Ken Copeland Ministries".

It's not like I don't have faith or don't believe in God, but we were struggling back then and I was getting a lot of pressure to make more money, along with the complaining about everything we can't afford.

The feces really hit the oscillator for me when I found out she was giving upwards of $300.00 a month to this group. I'm telling you it was like an addiction. I finally convinced her she could give away the money or complain about not having enough...but not both.

We fought about it for several years in fact, and things didn't start levelling off until about three years ago. It was almost a deal breaker.

I'm trying to convince her we need to join the now infamous [blog expatbrit49] but she is resisting!!

Too bad, I could get into that..

Do you believe in God?

Has religion caused problems with any of your relationships?

Have you any experience with the televangelists?

FYI...the only time I hear OH GOD...OH GOD...OH GOD now, she's referring to me!!..I think...

Alright Lusty! I just commented on here and it said Member Deleted Post! What!
I will try this again.
I find Televangelists an interesting breed of salesmen. Its the only group I know that uses guilt of eternal damnation as a selling point. Before you send money to any "Cause", check out the lifestyle of the dude asking for the money. Last time I looked, no one really needed 7 houses, a fleet of limos, monthly world travel, a few hookers and lots of Bling. Unless of course your a Rock Star!

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I was raised Catholic. It didn’t take.
Back when I was a kid, we got 6 channels, 3 were UHF. I remember watching a Jim and Tammy Baker show, and they were begging the audience for donations to help some silly cause. She was crying and her excessive eye liner was running down her face.
My sister and I burst out laughing.
We made jokes about the cameraman not having salt and pepper with his lunch, and things like that.
Like they were gonna feed these people only if they accepted the bible. Like learning our faith would prevent floods and hurricanes.

I don’t think God needs my money.

I have been known to score using faith-based seduction. This one lady shared with me her deep conviction that God had a plan for her. I shared with her that just that week I had been praying for a good woman to come into my life. It seemed like a powerful sign from God that we should meet in the place we met. Like Destiny had found a way. It was impossible to resist.
She turned out to be a FREAK.

Yeah, I believe.

I have a couple of family members by marriage that push me every time I see them to join their flock.
But?
I do have my believes but truth be told, I am not easily led. So to be pulled in by a televangelist or anyone else?

Not likely~

Do you believe in God? I've faith in me and the person I am. The way I live my life. If there is a "higher being", I've not seen this person, nor has anything extraordinary happened in my life due to this, supposed entity. I know, this "higher being" would respect me for the person I am. Out there or not, it's faith in me and what I am that gets me by, Nothing else........
~~ Enough said...........

I completely believe in God. No questions asked He exists for me. I do NOT go to church however. I don't need to. He is all around us.

Never had any issues in my relationships as I believe what I believe and don't press it on anyone nor do I like anyone to press their version of God on me.

As for tv ministries...some of the people in my facility always seem to watch 100 Huntley Street in the morning so when I am working with them in their rooms I get to catch bits and pieces of it and it's ok. I'd never send money though. If I am going to use some disposable cash I'd get a membership here.

Thanks for turning me onto a new religion, Church of Pervology. I really feel this is something I can believe in and visit everyday.

(I grew up Catholic and everyday I feel I am agnostic...religion is something that I explore on my own. Share my thoughts concerning my indifference to a few select friends. But I always enjoy a good conversation about peoples views, thoughts and feelings regarding how religion has influenced their lives.)

I believe in God - but I do not believe in current day organized religion.

Religion has caused a little friction. We used to go to church and gave our 10th part faithfully. We were members of this chruch for many years. When a member of my family become terminally ill, the pastor didn't even bother to give me a call - nor did ANYONE else in the church. A few months later, I lost my job and had no income for nearly six months. I stopped tything the church. The pastor called me almost every week wanting to know when I was going to send money.
I told him that I had given my time, money, heart, and soul to the church and all I had received was his phone calls wanting money. I told him I get the same thing from every telemarketer, and I didn't have to see his ugly face telling me what a loser and sinner I am. I hung up on him and havn't been back to that church since. My wife still wants to go. I told her to go on but I was NOT gonna step foot in that money-lusting place again.

When I was in college, I worked as a DJ at a local radio station. One of my shifts was Sunday AM when all the preachers were on. One guy preached, "Come to (name of church). If you come in an ambulance, and come in faith believing and the Lord doesn't heal you, I'll personally pay your ambulance bill." My thoughts on MOST tele-evangelists are that they are in it for the money and the GLORY, not for the uplifting of their listeners. All of the big evangilists drive cars I can only dream of and live in homes most of use envy. Wonder where the money for those 'perks' came from? I bet its your wife's $300 a month, along with many many other $300 monthly payments.

Dang! $300 a month! That's a lot of buck-a-roonies! I can tell you I'd not be spending my money that way - but I can't judge another person for doing so and I tend to over spend on things that others may find crazy. Still - dang that's some big bucks!

yes i do believe in god, yes i do believe that he sent his only son to die for our sins!

but what i don't believe is trying to push religion down someones throat! that will make someone bolt, 10 times out of 10! never works! and it turns me off!and people who do that crap, should be stifled!

yea i have known alot of faux christians in my day,so much as to where if things happen/prayers unanswered, they will turn around and blame it on you, for not having enough faith! WTF??????not a good thing to do when someone is new to the church scene!

yea televangelists suck- especially benny hinn! yea that fucker! i had seen a 20/20 documentary on him in which he pleaded to the audience to send in a prayer request, with that prayer request send in your monetary donation, the bigger the monetary donation, the faster the prayer will be answered.

well 20/20 happened to drop by his ministries one day, looked into the back dumpster, had had seen alllll of these prayer requests. in the garbage! he couldn't give an answer on why they were there! he just hung his head reaaalll low!....LOL ......Fucker! he have to answer to him one day!

Sure I believe in a higher power. Since the higher power created the Grand Canyon I don't think I should give money toward the maintenance of a building.

Does it cause trouble in my relationships? No religion hasn't but politics have

Trouble with televangelist? Nope. If I'm ever telemarketed by them I have two standard answers.

"Keep your dogma to yourself. God doesn't need another used car salesman"

"Religion is for people afraid of hell. Spirituality is for people who have been to hell and don't want to go back"

LustyTaurus replies on 3/21/2007 7:21 pm:
