Good times bad times

You know I've had my share...

I found this advertisement and I started thinking how much I miss Geauga Lake. Specials like this were the only time we went to amusement parks as .

Growing up in a larger family, I was the eldest of four until 1988 and then 1992. Yes if you are following my baby brother was born the I was entering my senior , which also means besides the booger I have all sisters.. Thanks for that mom and dad...

Anyway Geauga Lake was awesome. not a huge rollercoaster person, so Cedar Point really is not my thing. Geagua Lake however was an timey park, that kept growing. So yes they had coasters (at one time the largest wooden coaster) but they also had all the fun stuff. Bumper cars, antique cars, tilt-a-whirl, miniature trains, go carts, boats, you name it practically. As it looked growing up

Not to mention that Sea World was across the Lake from the early 70's on. How much I love going there. We never went there as , parents did not see the benefit in the cost. We had the Zoo and Aquarium and that was enough for them lol

However when I moved back to the area after graduating High School in Kansas I would go at least once a to both Geauga Lake and Sea World. Penguins, Shamu, Clyde and Seamore plus the good memories of the amusement park, how could I not.

Unfortunately the parks were purchased by Six Flags and to compete with Cedar Point (Cedar Fairs flagship park) Six Flags put a lot of money into new coasters, turning Sea World into a different type of park, and for a short time has success. However the early 2000's had a little down turn around here, and they eventually could not keep up with the debt they had acquired. Ultimately selling the park to Cedar Fair in 2004. By 2007 Cedar Fair was sending the coasters to their other parks, and in September closed Geauga Lake for good.
Today what is left has been retaken by nature.

Besides the cost which is outrageous, this is the main reason I will forever boycott Cedar Point. They ruined childhood fun, I could have passed to my .

Just forgotten photographs
To remind me of the past
But I can still see everything just fine
And who needs pictures with a memory like mine...

Was there animals there? If so great the place closed. To bad all those so called amusement parks don't go out of business. Think animals like being kept there? Taken from the wild or born to captive parnets. Beaten to do tricks. Kept in small areas unlke the wild. Noise to much for some kinds. How many humans want to live as prisioners?

Humans are the most dangerous animals on earth.

If only animals had the ability to know when to keep away from us humans they would be better off.

Of course there was. You are entitled to your opinions, and I respect that. I will say that zoos, aquariums, and yes even Sea World help animals, conserve animals, keep them from becoming extinct, take care of ones that would otherwise die in the wild and so forth. As for "beaten to do tricks" I am sure that happens in some venues, but the ones I speak of do not.

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us though.

Wow!Where's Amanda Blake when you need her.I suppose when you live in
Gary Larson's world you at least get some revenge on humans from the animal public
that live there!

We had a place called Legend City.A coaster.skyride, model T's and various rides
that are now operated by the traveling carnivals that set up overnight at various churches and shopping center parking lots these days.

Living in the southwest it was about train robberies and cowboys on horseback
who all supported a horses right to work. The lost Dutchman's mine excursion
and a boat ride through hostile territory with the calvary coming through at the last minute. It was a fun place to escape and have fun.Arizona isn't a very friendly
place to amusement parks. With temperatures similar to mercury they can only be open six months of the year.

I love the advertisement!

Using more than all the road!

A FarSide world would be outstanding

Yeah I heard it is hot out there. That is the thing right. I dislike carnivals, just something about a ride that can be put up and taken down in a couple hours worries me lol.

That place sounds like a lot of fun...Who did not want to play cowboy growing up. Thank you for sharing the memories.

I have not, but will definitely be looking it up. I think some of the coolest pictures around are ones of abandoned places. The Wizard of Oz theme park, or vacation spots where the lake dried up etc..
