This week...

This week... This week my Boot Camp Boy becomes a Marine. Needless to say, I'm all sorts of crazy emotional. He is facing the Crucible, the final challenge that transitions that recruit into a Marine. I am beyond proud of him, words can't even describe. I only wish I could be there to see him march onto that parade deck Saturday morning and receive his eagle, globe, and anchor. I have just one more work week until I leave to see him graduate. I've never been so excited for something in my entire life. I was not ready to let him go yet, but the thing is, I probably never would be no matter what the circumstance. And, I find myself thinking back to a conversation I'd had with my oldest when he was 24. He'd wanted to transfer to Colorado and I had talked him out of it. I told him it was too far away, what if he needed my help? I wouldn't be there to just bail him out of his shenanigans. He's always deeply embroiled in some sort of mischief..... I think I should have let him go. My mother instincts tell me to hang on tight, protect those babies and keep them close. They need me! They deserve to spread those wings, though.... No matter how difficult it is for that Momma. And, I'm here to say, it IS difficult. It is the Ultimate Mother Challenge! Motherhood Crucible Three Two of them Adults One Spawn of Satan Will I pass that final challenge?? Only time will tell.... |

You've not held your son back and he would thank you from the bottom of his heart for that.

Good Luck to you and your son Being a parent is not easy. Sometimes you have to let the kids do what they want and watch from the sidelines. I had some friends after high school move to Florida. That sounded like fun to them and most of them were back within the first year to stay closer to home.

By the time the Spawn comes of age you may be pushing her out the door!

Though not a parent, I can imagine how difficult it is for a mother to let their kids go their way in the world. My Mum ensured I didn't end up on my Dad's farm by sending me to boarding school - she was cruel (at the time) to be kind (now appreciated)!

Seems to me McLade that whichever challenge you've been presented with you've tackled it head on and have come out the other side better for it!!

Oh my ! Will you pass the final challenge ? I think you will fly through it soaring like the Eagle mother you are the perfect Raptor parent ! In time time you will be rewarded with grandkids visits and time well spent with your kids ... That will be your acknowledgement of a job well done !!! Congrats to your son!! God Bless !!

It is hard being a parent and part of it is the letting go. I remember my Mom once saying that no matter how old they get you don't stop caring/worrying about them and she was in her 80s when she said it.

I'm gonna have to kick my oldest out of the nest. He doesn't want to leave the creature comforts of living at home and work hard enough to do it all alone. His sister, on the other hand, will leave for college in a year and probably won't even give me a backward glance. None of it is easy. Sigh. Hugs.

Take several boxes of tissues. Or maybe a couple of towels. You'll make it through. You may also need some eye drops. And ice cream. "Oh my god mom, really?" "What??" "You've got them strategically placed now in the car now?" What a stinker!

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin." I always behave. Preferably not well.
