Transgender In America

I'm sure the whole transgender thing is a very sensitive subject. And I'm sure I will offend some with what I'm about to say. I'm going to say it anyway. These new laws that are cropping up about transgendered people using bathrooms for which their birth certificates assign them, regardless of how they look or feel on the outside and inside is a bit short sighted and ridiculous. The lawmakers have it in their heads that transgendered people are playing a game. They apparently believe that transgendered people are choosing to pretend to be the opposite sex for the sole purpose of sneaking into public restrooms to sneak a peek at people. That's it. That's what these laws boil down to. Never mind the fact that those who are transgender disrupt their entire lives to become the people they were truly meant to be. Never mind the fact that they have to endure countless surgeries and hormones and a complete altering of the course it was presumed they would be on since birth. Never mind that they lose family and friends. Never mind that they must live with criticisms and recriminations. Never mind that they face laws and rules and societal norms that don't accept them for who they are. Evidently, they are willing to endure all of these things just so they can get cheap thrills by walking into a bathroom and seeing body parts they aren't supposed to see. It's some conspiracy they've been cooking up since birth. And these lawmakers have foiled their evil plotting and planning. But it's not transgendered people who are hung up on sexuality; it's not the transgendered people who are all fired up and concerned with what is going on in the restrooms assigned to the opposite sex. It's clearly the lawmakers with the obsession. It's the lawmakers who have nothing better to do than to butt their nose in where it doesn't belong.

Of course, these laws have very little to do with actual restroom activity and everything to do with discrimination. That's why the laws make no sense. There's nothing rational about laws like this. How can you even really enforce them? Does everyone carry around his birth certificate to show them to armed guards who do nothing but stand at entry ways to restrooms? It's merely a deliberate attempt to make people suffer in order to feel better about oneself.

What you say doesn't offend me. First off, what is Transgender? You seem to think that all transgender people are the same, well I have news for you they are not, just like all the other people in this world. There have been various definitions to what "transgender" is even on this site. The Charlotte city ordinance, the most recent that has made national news, didn't even define transgender at all but said you could go into the bathrooms or locker rooms to which sex you feel you identify with. Remember the woman who said she was black and then later said she identified as black but was actually white? The problem with that wording of the ordinance is that anyone could enter either bathroom. That is what they are mostly concerned with. You know there are weird crazy people that are not transgendered and would take advantage of this and there would be nothing that could be done. That is one of the reasons they had the HB2 bill which was past into law to prevent municipalities from passing such ordinances which would also differentiate throughout the state making it even more confusing for the people and law enforcement to understand, except for the crazy and weird people I described earlier. The ordinance would also force restaurants and businesses to comply or be fined (again and again) which could eventually put them out of business if they didn't agree with it. I feel it should be up to the restaurants and businesses to decide. The way it was before there was no problem, no complaints that were made public. And remember it was the city of Charlotte (City Council) that butt there noses into peoples businesses first that started this mess. Also, ordinances are civil and not criminal. Criminal laws are defined by the state and federal government. If the transgendered people are not hung up on sexuality then why can't they go to the bathroom of their sex on their birth certificate? The majority people that are suffering are the ones that won't get jobs to the businesses that decided to leave/ or not come to NC which includes both the heterosexual and the LGBT communities. I asked a couple of people that work for the businesses that are against the HB2 bill and I asked them if they had transgendered people working there and if they were allowed to go into the bathroom of their choosing? None of them new of any...Sounds like politicians using people as pawns for their own political gain, as usual.

I understand the meaning of being transgender. I was being very facetious in the first part of my blog, but in the end I said that the laws really didn't make much sense at all. In the end, it comes down to being as discriminatory as possible. And that is the bottom line. Politicians really should have better things to do than focus on who is using what bathroom. Are they worried about crimes being committed in public restrooms because the "wrong" person went into one? That type of thing is going to happen no matter how you try to regulate a bathroom. Transgendered people aren't or twisted. They shouldn't be considered deviant just because they identify with something other than the plumbing they were given. It's too easy to pigeonhole people. And I hate to say it, but I'm glad that it's hurting the average Joe that businesses are deciding to leave the state. Maybe next time they will vote for love over hate. Punishing the people isn't the intent. It's just the domino effect of hate.

    Quoting  :

I pretty much agree, except the last sentence. There is, or for that matter, was no problem here in Charlotte either. It's just a mayor who has higher political ambitions making a mess out of nothing against a former Charlotte mayor who is now Governor and ironically they both happen to be in different political parties. Most people couldn't describe who was in the bathroom they just came out of. I've been in Men's rooms in which women came in because there were long lines at the women's restrooms...and nobody complained or harassed anyone...and it was in Charlotte about 20 years ago.

Well said. Too many of us are way too prejudiced against people that are not the same.
