why is meeting people so hard?

I left Minnesota in search of solace, ocean time, and to meet cool people. That was my plan when me and my lady moved to Homestead Florida. Coming from Minnesota, there is a saying we used to identify ourselves with out of towners. " MINNESOTA NICE" we use this term because that's what we are...we are nice ,respectful full of life and more so, we are approachable. Since moving here(5months now) we have only met 4 people. 3 of which we lost there numbers purposely. the other person we met is cool but has limited time to hang out and do anything. so we rarely hang out. We also have gone to the local bars, beaches ,and a couple expensive night spots. we would have small talk with a few couples but nothing serious..so I wonder why is it so hard to find people who actually want to be friends? people on these types of sites always put "I want to meet new people" in their statuses but rarely act on it. Why?

A way of seeking an identity they've never had before. Then when it comes to acting on it they realise how they would be thought of first.Lest not forget that any visible imperfection, whether it's a small birthmark or the tip of a pinky finger missing from an industrial accident(examples only) sends people, albeit the wrong people, running.
All the people I have ever met from Minnesota are probably the best american example of what friendly people are!(seriously) .I live in one of the other popular winter target spots. It's their loss!I am sure you don't like hearing that but it'is true!
Stay focussed,patience is a virtue!

Using more than all the road!

I am fairly new to actually being able to meet men. I just moved from a small town to a slightly bigger town and I feel there is more chance of actually meeting people. I don't have my own transportation so have to rely on public transportation or my son to drop me off somewhere. For the first time, a man my age contacted me via e:mail on this site. We exchanged a few e:mails over the course of a week and it seemed as if we had a lot in common. He indicated he was interested in meeting, for coffee, a drink, a movie. I agreed and suggested attending a festival in town that weekend. He said that sounded good. He works nights. Friday during the day, he sent me a message, saying he was really tired from playing golf with buddies after work . The next time I heard from him was late Saturday morning. He said he had some chores to do, some errands to run and he would get back to me about meeting. I replied that I needed a bit more advance planning because i relied on others for transportation. I apologized, said I usually enjoyed spur of the moment activities. I told him back in our younger days, the guy usually picked the girl up at home and dropped her off there after the date, but now adays, people have to be more careful. I said I hoped he understood and looked forward to planning another meeting.
I never heard back from him.
I do hear a lot of younger people complaining about how no one wants to meet on this site. All I can say is...keep on trying. For as many personalities as there are on this site, there are as many reasons for people to not follow through with meeting plans. I have only had this one fall through so I don't know how I will feel after half a dozen no shows. I have been told to not get discouraged...and I'm not at this point. I hope you aren't either.
