Where's the BEEF? - Recalled!

The Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS ORGanization) is responsible for causing one of the largest recalls of beef in recent history. Why? Their exposé video about animal abuse at a particular Cali slaughter house shows workers scooping up cattle using chains, forklifts, and various other implements of destruction is very typical. While the video was originally aimed at humane treatment even on death row, it raised a whole different issue.

There is a law that any cow for slaughter must be able to stand and walk on it's own. Why, it's about to be killed anyway, you might ask? Well it's not for humanitarian reasons anyway. Any cow that near death on it's own that it is incapable of standing is an impressive hyper-driven factory for our old friends E.Coli. Yum.

Now for the best part. Since this slaughter house makes primarily GROUND beef (and distributes mostly to super market chains and schools) it's impossible to tell what's been contaminated by one of these sick cows. So they have to recall ALL of it. Including the significant amount which is assumed to have already been CONSUMED!

Everyone empty out your stomachs...

Thank goodness seafood is my favorite indulgence!
I think I will delay eating lunch so I can give this blog post time to settle in the tummy!
