I've never owned a Chevy… I'm a Ford man. That is some very bad news for the workers. "Sweet, steamy, sensuous kisses light the bright fires of passionate lust within us." scott6250

Hello Joy I talked to a friend that sells Chevy's. He tole me some of the cars are not selling like the trucks and SUV He also said the smaller cars and some SUV's they only make round $300 then he gets a smaller part of that. I guess you can't make what's not selling. All my life I work at two factories that made parts for cars SUV's and trucks. Been laid off a few times to so I know what these people will go through but not like loosing job all together. I have had a lot of Chevy's my first car was a 1962 Impala. Yes I have 3 vechiles about 7 months ago had 6 to many. I have a Chevy truck, GMC Terrain and a old Jeep Wrangler. The other electric cars no they would have to get a lot better first. Never worked at GM but know some that do and have before. Pic of first car. Butch

Great post. I lived in a town where life was defined by when the tin mill closed (in 1929), when the pottery closed (1974) and when the Rockwell plant closed (1985). Population went from nearly 70,000 in 1928 to barely 25,000 today. Most of the reasons for closures were the cost of incorporating new technology and the cost of labor. Operations moved to new plants built in Tennessee. I get that corporations have to make decisions based on what they think is going to happen in the future (although I for one doubt electric cars will be that popular for at least another 20 years) as well as maximizing return for stockholders (which today are made up mostly of large investment portfolios representing hundreds of thousands of investors vice individuals). I just think that corporate CEOs are lousy prognosticators. Look at Sears....their catalog sales were the precursor to Amazon, yet they didn't see what was happening in IT. Now bankrupt. Anyway, I enjoy reading your stuff. It shows intelligence, a wide viewpoint, and almost always some humor. And the classic car pics are great. Ohhh, for that 1967 Pontiac GTO!!!!!

Joy, I was on a shop stewards course once, there was a film about how multi national companies pull the plug on foreign plants, the last Ford that was totally made in the UK was in 1966, now most of it I produced in Turkey and other places where the labour is cheap and the unions weak.

worked for Gm for 32 years and have a great retirment and UAW ins. They closed my plant hurt the hole town. Schools and Bussnes closed, home values have gone down to. That was 10 years ago just now staring to recover.

I was a Ford fanatic years ago, but switched to GMC truck and now a Chev Silverado for pulling trailer and a Jeep Cherokee for dayly runabout

My dad had a Chevy Impala ...great car that I eventually inhetitted. as my first car .. Great memories...😗 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

I have owned both Chevy and Ford...never had any extreme difficulty with either...currently driving a 1996 Silverado, owned since 1996, with 327 thousand plus miles on it...99.5% of those miles are driven by me. It is a devastating shame how companies shed working people in the name of profit. But without profit everyone will be on the street looking for the next job. A least the CEO and high executives have not gotten a raise at this time...we will see...sheesh,,,not like Sears going bankrupted and asking (and awarded) the bankruptcy court for a 25.5 million bonus for the top executives that helped run the business in to bankruptcy ...grrr >

As an Iron worker I have helped build and retool the plants....but have not been a auto employee. What companies need to learn is "People without money don't buy your product" "The fewer people buying the product, the less profit" "Less profit, eventually no company" Roundy round the money goes, hope it never stops, in someone's pocket, that is how the economy goes. created by me today.

My first car was a 1966 Malibu with baby blue "velvet" upholstery. Than i had a LONG love affair with Toyota { after Pacer and, Subaru) due to reliability, resale value, efficiency-service.. Now I have a Ford hatchback and no more 5 speed- Damn (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

My first car was a Chevy Camaro, followed by a Chevy Berlinetta and then a Pontiac Phoenix. I have a Ford now. I am sickened by the plant closures. The ripple effect will be painful for many. Independently Romantic Sounds Better Than Lonely

"American Pie", by Don McLean. "Chevy Van" by Sammy Johns. I still play old time rock 'n' roll. I grew up then ... Banksters and big corporations don't give a shit about anyone. Enough, I know too much about these things, and I don't want to get pissed off. Since '73, I've owned Chevys, Fords and Harleys. I rebuilt almost all of them, I love 400 to 700 Horsepower. I'll never own another GM since they went bankrupt and fucked over everyone in sight. The ownership and top officers are all still there, as far as I know. Fuck them. From now on, I'll buy an Indian, a Ford, or a Mercedes. I'll a;lways own a Ford pickup, they are really indestructible. Ask the assholes who have hit me over the years, my pickups have totaled whatever they drove. Right now, I have a 2005 Ford pickup that just turned 100,000 miles. It's still immaculate. It was built to last 200,000, so I won't replace it until it dies. I'll drive gas-powered mega-horsepower beasts until I die. Real men don't drive hybrids or electric cars, those are for pansies, to put it nicely. Ah, what the hell, fuck all the metrosexuals/homosexuals who buy that shit! Seeya soon, baby. I've never owned a Chevy..... Oh, wait, I did buy a used Chevy truck to use as a work truck, but it was a real lemon, and I sold it within a month. My first vehicle was a Jeep then a Ford F250 then another Ford F250, a '76 High Boy then another Jeep CJ5, another Ford F250, I bought a '67 Mustang for $1200, and restored it then sold it 10 years later when a guy offered me $15,000. I bought a Buick Century, and loved it....put 145,000 miles on it and sold it 11 years later for $2000 less than what I paid for it new. Next, I bought a GMC truck, but it was another lemon. the last 4 trucks I've bought have been Nissan's, and I've loved all of them. Over the past 20 years, I've been looking for a good deal on a '68 Roadrunner that I can restore, but haven't had any luck ….yet! I'm sure there's one sitting in a garage, shed or barn someplace though.....

At home growing up the family drove Chevy's. My ex and my first car was a Dodge, a former police car the Father in law picked up at auction. The thing ran like a top, but the body was beat to hell and back. So bad that we couldn't get the thing inspected without sinking big bucks into it. We traded it in for a Dodge station wagon, That thing built in the seventies had all the bells and whistles including a factory installed CB radio. Well, we had that thing for two months, and the dealership called us, they had a request from the wagons former owner, would we sell the car back to them? We did, at twice what we paid for it. That was the best car deal I ever had. We bought a new one after that a Plymouth Sundance. Owned that thing till it was totaled in an accident. Yep, you guessed it the car that hit us, a older model station wagon, with all that US. Steel in the thing it tore through our front end like a hot knife going through butter. We went back to the wagons after that, well the wagons of the day. Bought our first Plymouth Voyager. I guess you can say I'm a Plymouth Man? Though My heart still belongs to the Chevy and the classic lines of the sixty one Bel Aire.

Never owned a Chevy. Being from the UK unless you imported a Chevy you couldn't really get them. Now the only Chevy you can get here are rebadged Daewoos. I've owned a Citroen XM, a VW Passatt, a Mitsubishi Galant, a Ford Focus and am on a Renault Megane. Regarding industry, the towns round here are fairly small but there was a lot of different industries. At one time Nobel Explosives that later became Imperial Chemical Industries (IC employed over 10,000 people at its peak. However, when these places close its not just the factory. It's other places affected by them. There were train and bus services for workers that didn't have their own transport, so there's job losses there. Suppliers (ICI was in addition to explosives a Nylon plant, chemicals, fertilisers etc), distributors, security, cleaning, caterers and so on. Another town that was nearby was much the same. Kilmarnock in Scotland used to have Saxone and Clarks for shoes, Blackwood and Morton for carpets, Glenfield and Kennedy for marine valves, Shanks for pottery, various textiles, Barclays locomotives and most well known Johnnie Walker whiskey. What must be angering a lot of people in the case of GM is the federal bailouts, then this happens. I'm not wholly convinced with the self driving car argument. I enjoy driving, and some seem to think that self driving cars mean no accidents. That just won't be true. Equipment fails. Appreciative of the more mature lady.

Yes I owned Ford once. Really bad experience or not "lucky" car? Always has trouble with it. Car stand in service more time than drive,. Actually I was a Land Rover fan for awhile until they sell it to BMW, but now I own Corolla actually made here in Canada, ofcourse a lot of parts comes from everywhere though but still says made in Canada. Really wish I can buy Rav 4 which made not so far from your place either.... And really feel sad for your town especially what makes me mad when they discuss USMCA those plants has to be up and running, but as usually went Trump.......
