Don't Think Me A Sap. A Poem

Don't think me a sap
As my only way to be
You would be so very wrong.
Very wrong indeed.

I can be hard
As the hardest wood tree.
Eucalyptus may be
Versatile
As well as hemp
But I have about me
A sturdiness
That keeps me
Well grounded.

I can give of myself
But I want to live
Don't cut me down
Unless you are prepared
To deal with
The consequences.
The end of our
Nurturing connection.
