Endearments As Tokens Of Love A Poem

Written in 2016

Endearments As Tokens of Love

How I love endearments!
I say them with fervor
And meaning.
I do not say them lightly
I do not take their liking
For granted.
As some people take offense easily.
It happens when they don't know me.

My family has come to accept
That I call them honey
Or sweetie or sweetheart.
As a sign of affection.
They know my heart is in the right place.
It is like a love token.

A token of love.
Even friendship with me
Is paid thus.
As I give endearments
To many many people
Whether they like them or not.
It is like a place that does
Not accept tips.
But the workers deserve
Them nonetheless.

Appreciation, affection, tokens of love
All neatly packaged in endearments.
If there is a God
I bet he would accept them as currency.
Knowing they were honest expressions
Of loving another human being.

I am somewhat naive
But I know some folks abuse
Endearments use.
They might have forgotten a name or two
They might be patronizing
In their motive and tone.
But that is not to say
They should be disowned.
Go with the flow
And respond in kind
Put on a smile
And never your mind.

Recently I came across
A new endearment
From an Australian
It tickled my fancy
And I told him so.
So he wrote me some poems
With the word in it
It is the shortened version
Of the word darling.
Darl.
I loved that it sounded like<b> doll
</font></b>With the caring connotation
Of darling.
So to me it was a perfect rendition!

So my dear,
My darling,
Darl,
Honey
Sweetheart
Sweetie pie
They all pale
To being called my love.

And who would ever want to deny
That endearment?
They would be a fool,
Not to accept when it is proffered.
Love is the currency
We should all tender.
