Questions, please I recently received a comment on my blog about being a truck driver...wait...it was how great it would be to drive a truck.   I spent from the end of January '10 through September 6th '14 driving a truck around the country. I drove through all 48 connected states in less than 2 years...something I am led to believe is quite a task, many 20-40 year drivers haven't done it.  I also had several other "monumental" tasks on a list and completed all but one. These are not all based on a 1 day drive, they were just things I thought were interesting to accomplish. I drove for Werner and their trucks are governed at 65, this means the maximum a single driver can do in one day is 715 miles. But that's unrealistic because it would mean you'd have to start your clock and be driving 65 all day for 11 hours non stop. More on that another time, maybe  I did a border to border run, I did a coast to coast run (with an asterisk), I drove in 3 time zones in one day, I drove through 7 states in one day, I had a 709 mile day, a few 690s, a few more 680s, several 670s, I went over Donner pass twice in one night during winter...these last few weren't really on the list but certainly could have been...the only one I did not get to do  was a corner to corner run: San Diego to somewhere in Maine or Seattle to Miami. (Look, assmonkey, your title said something about questions, get to it already!)  What I would like to know primarily is if y'all would find it an interesting read, my travels over the road. If so, I would love to answer any questions y'all might have, about drivers, trucks, driving, truckstops, whatever!!  I can dedicate posts to a single topic or cover a few at a time, maybe incorporate some of my personal experiences along the way. So what say you?? Interested? Everyone is on a different plane of intelligence. Some people's plane has not taken off yet!!  |

I think we should do a bloggers road trip with you as the driver. We can ride along in one of those load carrier they put animals in so it's open and airy. We could trade off who's going to ride shot gun ... go visit all our blogger friends along the way, virtually. Do you have any Primal Urges ... Well... sounds like it's a plan but I have yet to have anyone ask me questions so I might have something to write about wink wink nudge nudge I seriously doubt an orgy truck would be safe to drive down the highway since y'all would probably get the thing turned over somehow And just to clarify... I'm not driving any more, stopped back in Sept. last year  Everyone is on a different plane of intelligence. Some people's plane has not taken off yet!!

Hell yes I'd like to read that! I drove for forty years. I only did about a year over the road, back when I was twenty three or four. See, I met this slender girl with long golden brown hair..... Most of my driving was local deliveries. I worked for an LTL common carrier the last twenty five years and that was the best job of all. I ran a regular P&D route, and the job can best be described as driving around visiting with friends all day. I spent my days listening to stories, trading lies and telling jokes. A city P&D driver gets paid by the hour. A freight train is blocking Turner Avenue NW? Ka-ching! Construction has Division Street gridlocked? Ka-ching! Every now and then you'd get an angry dispatcher who had an angry customer screaming in his ear, and he'd pass the srceaming on. The correct response is "Sucks to be you! There's traffic out here!
