Making The Grade

I’ve mentioned a couple times over the last 5 months or so that I had been taking an online college course – Practical Creative Thinking. It is a business management course. In its most basic description it is applying facts, logic and organization (in a world where there isn’t much of them) to problem solving. A lot of very Virgo stuff and a lot of it is what I’ve been doing for a living for most of my life. The semester ended on 12/6 when I turned in my class project via a PowerPoint presentation. I had to learn the basics of PowerPoint in the process.

The subject of the problem solving presentation was my friend, Donald, who died due to his alcohol addiction and the problems he had with his business, our racing plans, the relationships around him and my involvement. I wrote a little about him here > Alcohol amp Final Lap

I found out about the class because someone I was involved with (“MG”), before I joined Pazzion, started the class and asked for my help (besides paying for the class) with a couple assignments – she didn’t finish the class. I mentioned her here > My First Year Of Blogging Here and in a couple other posts. Since I knew what the class was I figured I would give it a shot.

Anyway, I’m dislocating my shoulder by patting myself on the back here and boasting about my grade . Out of a possible 322 points I got 327. So now my college GPA is a 3.79.

I’m thinking about taking another class this semester but haven’t figured out which one. Here are the choices I’m looking at:

Anthropology 101 – “Stones, Bones and Human Origin”, I think I have the stones for it but it costs an additional $150 on top of the tuition and I’m not sure what I would do with it.

Adobe Photoshop I (Maybe I could Photoshop a huge dic pic for my profile

Oxyacetylene Welding, but I’ve taken it twice so far and my welding sucks; it’s a patience and perfection thing.

World History 205

Unmanned Aircraft Systems 200 - History, Regulation & Law, again I’m not sure what I would do with it but it sounds . . . different.

UPDATE 1/4: Due to the whelming number of requests . . .
Re the extra 5 points y’all have asked about. There was a question asked on the first (intro) session of the class, but I don’t recall what it was right now. It was buried in a bunch of things and I suspect it was to see if we were paying attention.

Re Photoshop; I’m not sure what I would do with Photoshop either and more time on the computer isn’t something I’m looking for.

There is a Rain Water Harvest Systems class at a college in Flagstaff and I could use that to set up a water capture system at my house. No books, not online and only 1 weekend. And, maybe I could set up a side business doing Rain Water Harvest Systems. Hmmm . . .

Hmmm, water retention. Do you get much rain out there?
Since several people have asked I'll write up a post on it.

I could give you directions to my place too

The laws I'm referring to are based on court decisions going as far back as the 1800s. Especially in the west where water wasn't a plentiful as in the eastern US. At one point in time Kansas sued Colorado over the water that flowed down the river. Also, AZ CO, CA, NV and various native tribes have been sued/sued over the rights to the Colorado River's water. I suspect we will have "water wars" with the climate issue drying the US west even more. There is also a bit of a "thing" happening locally over water attributed to the Verde River.

It can, even in drought years. Maybe I'll post up about the difference between the Arizona people think of (arid ugly hot desert, like in Phoenix area) and northern AZ.

Good info DA, a frustrating program to learn isn't gonna work for me and time away from the computer is better for me.

I'm in a part of AZ that is north, and higher up altitude-wise, of the lower desert and not quite as arid. And here the rain water capture systems are kinda rare. But I believe they should be more prevalent. Also, I worked at a place in Colorado that was prohibited from capturing rain/snow runoff due to the screwed up water laws there are here in the US - long story.

Thank you SS. Not so sure about Photoshop for me right now. But I added a class to the list that just may work for this semester.

Extremely happy for you- great job. I ma curious what are the extra 5 points for- staying up past midnight, burning the oil hidden under those stones?? Annette is right in that photoshop is unwieldy but unless you are sure what you are going to do with all your credits, that's the one I'd go for. If it to acquire more knowledge,
I would do the Anthropology.. Congratulations
Thanks PG. I updated my post re the extra points and Photoshop.

Well, my PhD minor is Cultural Anthropology do you can guess what I would say go for. I also think that everyone can benefit from learning more about world history. There are so many things we don't pay attention to in 10th grade that we appreciate so much more as adults.

Ultimately, though, your major and what do you intend to do with it shold drive the classes you pick.
No major really at this point just taking things that seem interesting. And I agree about the 10th grade thing - I was a bit preoccupied with other things back then

I think I agree with the other comments that the photoshop one sounds like the best deal. Unless you're going to be "Digging Up Bones."

Now what did you do to get the extra bonus points?

I 'd go with Photoshop ! It's something computer related and once you get the basics of it you can really do a lot of cool stuff with it.Photoshop, not your fantasy phallice. Welding applied to art is a lot of fun and you can make a ton of money having fun selling it shows.Congrats on the GPA
Thanks 2, the welding/art thing is an interesting thought.
