More Good Premonitions (The Dream Is Obtainable)
More Good Premonitions (The Dream Is Obtainable) Once again I did pretty well on my picks I posted on Week 7 NFL Game Picks last weekend. I called 10 of the 14 games . There were 2 games where I should have gone with my gut instead of analytical things. With my Buffalo pick I even wrote that I was concerned about all their injuries. Well the 2nd string QB gave up 14 points in the first minutes of that game. I also went with Indy but felt New Orleans had gotten past their terrible start – dumb, just dumb. And AGAIN, the refs blew big calls in the end of the Monday night game. Both were potentially game changing plays and calls. The league has admitted one call was blown. Really NFL? With all the money and resources there is yet another blatant wrong call this year. Then there was a violent sideline incident with a player who has a very bad rep off the field. Given that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month it is my opinion the NFL should have acted immediately after the game and suspended this guy again, but they did not. I may write on this in another post. What is your opinion of sports figures and how they are treated when caught committing violent acts off the field? That said if I had been put up actual cash since I started posting this, the island dream would be a lot closer. You know – THE DREAM, the one where I make millions picking the games and take a pretty Pazzion woman to MY tropical isle. Well, I have actual paying work to do, and I need to see who are in next week’s games. Sooo, until my next picks Aloooo–ha When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. |

There are often game changing incidents in the Premiership League over here in England. What I really don't like is the way players surround the referee in the hope of getting a player sent off. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Athletes and movie stars are out there for everyone to see and try to relate to. Many don’t realize what you said about them being the same as the rest of us . . . except the money and fame. They bleed the same COLOR of blood and they even misspell like some of us. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

In general, we make too much of our sports stars. These are just people, and in addition they're people who've spent their time perfecting their performance at a physical activity, not at interacting with other people. They aren't heroes. They run fast, hit baseballs hard more than thirty percent of the time or can throw a baseball and hit a gnat at sixty six feet six inches. That ain't heroism, it's just skill. Heroes fly in B24 Liberators through flak and Messerschmitts day after day in spite of incredible attrition. They disregard their own safety in spite of being terribly frightened that they will die. Kids do look up to sports celebrities though, and when they see those celebrities continue to be celebrated after damaging other people, it leaves a mark. We do have to set an example. I don't give a damn if a player uses drugs or performs drunk. Bill Veeck wrote that Grover Cleveland Alexander was a better pitcher drunk than he was sober. This makes me laugh and gives me joy. But I don't remember him punching out a woman in an elevator. We can't let our sons see that and not see punishment for that act. One reason I don’t like the Cowboys is Mr. Jones. Today, after the game incident, he called the guy a leader. WTF, a convicted abuser and who goes nuts on the field is a leader. I didn’t think I could have less respect for either of them, but they found a way to lower themselves. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
