Dumb-asses and cash

Today a friend needed a loan to pay for a college class that came open for her. So I head into town to deposit it in her Chase account (one of the worst financial corps ever conceived). I usually write a check for her, but while I was in line (don’t get me started about their “customer service”) I realized I had used my last check on Friday. No problem, I had enough cash to cover her loan. CASH for those who may not know is also referred to as ‘legal tender’. Legal tender is a form of payment recognized by a legal system to be valid for meeting a financial obligation. CASH is legal tender – it says so on all US dollar bills.

So, I finally get to the teller and place the CASH on the counter and give her the name and acct# to deposit the CASH in. Teller says they can’t/don’t take CASH deposits. Really? I’m in the USA, I’m in a US based bank, I am handing them real US dollars – WTF. Since I needed to get other things done I didn’t press the issue and it probably would have gotten very ugly very fast. So I left.

I went back later and gave them a check. The teller says “thank you for coming back”. Now she became a dumbass – I didn’t have a choice but to come back. This is one reason I don’t go around town heeled.

The point is, how FUCKING dumb is it that a bank won’t take cash? Well the answer is Chase, along with Wells Fargo, Citi Bank, and Bank of A (they do not deserve the name America) and a few others. They are all the same dumbassed, incompetent, dishonest thieves that caused the financial mess that started in 2007.

OK, you can come out now – RANT over . . . for now.

Yeah that was pretty strange. But that is what Chase's policy is now - can't deposit cash into someone else's account. Just another reason to bank with local CUs.

Hey Boris, Bag of Assholes is tied for worst with Chase IMO. A little S & L I was with ended up as Chase. Going round and round with managers is tiresome to say the least. Go Raiders!

Did you ask them why? I bank with them and I've never had a problem depositing cash The last time I did was at the beginning of the year and it was't a small amount.

How large was the deposit? (That was more of a rhetorical question). If they have concerns about cash from illicit activities (drugs, prostitution etc) maybe they have more stringent limits than the federal 10K reporting limit.
Hi Browneyes, deposit was less than 200 nothing like a drug etc amount. If I had the time I may have asked but I have no faith in Chase et al.

Banks will not accept cash deposits into someone else's account because it could be drug money. Plain and simple. This is the reason I was told anyway
It was less than 200 nothing like a drug/laundering amount.

Right on! They ARE all the same bastards who crashed our economy, and they're working on another bubble to do it again. And they'll get away with it by virtue of having purchased our government. No matter which of the two parties we elect, they sell us out to financial behemoths, who after looting the treasury proceed to nickel and dime us to death.

A bank that wouldn't take a cash deposit?? For heaven's sake, I worked in a bank for 37 years and we never refused cash. If the amount of cash exceeds a certain amount, a form would have to be completed by the account holder for various areas of the government; this is to track any possible money laundering.
If I had been you I would have asked to see the Manager. Really, cash is acceptable anywhere, but so many are used to being paid in plastic that cashiers ask "will that be debit or credit card?" I sometimes joke and ask "remember cash? that's still good, right?"
Hi Uma, I was depositing less than 200 nothing like a laundering amount. If I had the time I may have asked, and I have had dealings with Chase before the managers are usually not too bright (several long stories).

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of! A bank - financial institution that takes our CASH and makes their money on it - wouldn't accept that CASH..
