Age when losing your virginity; does the age really matter?
Age when losing your virginity; does the age really matter? Thursday night, while having a conversation with Pamela, just my neighbor and friend, it got a bit headed when we broached the subject of late bloomers and the impact it might have on an adults sex life later on. Pamela asked about one of ex'es she became friendly with. Then the S%$t storm started. She started pointing out that having so many sexual partners in life is not a good thing. She guessed that my sexual partners had to number about 30 in my life so far. My smile then laughter just really pissed her off. Background, just before turning a , at 12 years old, sex was introduced to me (with a partner that is) ..thank you Millicent. I went on and made a statement; if thirty (30) was indeed the number of partners my body experienced, and if my sexually only attracted an average of one (1) partner per year, it meant that there were seventeen (17) years left unaccounted for (since currently I am 59 years old). Her mouth dropped, eyes dilated and she stopped being angry. She did however open up a can of worms. How young is too young and how old is too old to lose your virginity? This morning (1am - ish) The google internet browser was used to find articles and scientific positions on the subject. Of course one search on the internet always leads to another and another. My searching stopped when the tangential searching hit upon the subject regarding sexual dysfunction / kinky behavior is tied to the fact of someone having a bad experience losing their virginity. Later this subject will be one to look at, but now let's talk about the age in which someone loses their virginity. This will not be a moral debate, please. Of course most parents (okay at least me) did not want my , now 23 years old, to be anywhere near sex (except in a classroom, learning about it academically) when she was a preteen or . Yet many young people were in the past, currently in the present and of course in the near future will make a decision to have sex. There is very little we can do to stop it. Even in the medieval ages when the use of chastity belts (which are often referenced in popular culture as an extreme method of enforcing fidelity) probably did not help keep men and women from having sex. It made me wonder even more, what age is the right "healthy" age to have sex? "Only good girls keep diaries. Bad girls don’t have time.” |
