Running after sunset

I'm a distance runner, it's my one form of working out.

Being a runner in the south Florida summer can be brutal. August days in Fort Lauderdale typically feature temps that hover in the high 80's with dreadful amounts of humidity. So I run after sundown.

The nights are much more hospitable with temps that are usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler.

Tonight I'm doing an interval workout: mile repeats with one minute rest periods.

My typical running pace is 10 minute miles but when I do intervals I run at a much faster pace: usually a 7:50 mile. Then I do a minute rest and crank out another repeat.

The idea is to accumulate time at my vo2 max pace which, in simple terms, is the pace that stresses my cardiovascular system to the max.

This kind of workout leads to big gains in fitness but it's also quite stressful. I feel I'm ready, though.

Heading out the door to run in 3, 2, 1.....

Happy Sunday night!

I use to do free weights: curls, bench presses and that kind of thing. I have not done any weights in about a year.

I'm thinking about joining a gym in the fall... but running is, and always will be, my primary form of exercise.

The walking you're doing is a good workout, sounds like you're making good progress.

I'm like you but in reverse: I swim to keep from drowning!

Just joking, I have always lived near the ocean so I am comfortable in the water. I just really like the endorphin rush I get from running.

Happy Sunday/Monday!

It's another glitch. I've seen it on other blogs.

Nobody complained before. I'm not going to change it, but I assume when people type in their comments it's in black.

It could be worse, we could both be living in Antarctica or Siberia,

I think that might be a good "get away from the entire human race for a month" trip.

I'm in!
