a poet's pyre

a poet's pyre
These lost moments in seconds soon accumulate
held thoughtless and rhyme-less by inconsiderate fate
the ideas each dying on a poet's pyre
such a strange deathless chill white fire
an absence of conscious achieving
tumbling words in an act of self deceiving
the pictures warm hues flatter and lure
perhaps in those arms a better cure
for this social disease of loneliness
and wondering if in all words a phoniness
the interpretation of heart's chords fail
to capture true sentiment in organ's wail
a belief in love when of love world seems devoid
and the mirror on the wall your dead eyes avoid
what became of knights jousting for maidens fair
what became of the sorceress with red mane of hair
did the dragons of progress slay them all
in gouts of flame blackened principles fall
there are no tears for those who come after
let them sense not the tears but the laughter
think of our world a better place than we see
let us try and make such a world be
romantics till the end assaulting castle cold
where the rulers our souls have bought and sold
leaving the empty vessels without heat of love
devoid of truth or kindness or solace from above
in moments seconds rush by and expire
and we who stand seek to stroke the fire
keep the bell jar of hope's flame lit
even as our hearts love's touch forget
a muse or money or a kiss to bring
a song of justice and love fresh to sing.

I like this a lot....even as the bard laments...his very words are a warning...

Well 1916 lead to 1922,
despite the poets, and the songs, the country bled anew

and many thanks for liking it.....as your own fine works continue to evoke a reaction in the reader, and a resonance, even after they have been read.
