There are many things! For me the darker skin adds an Exotic Flava to it! The simple contrast of Nilla & Cocoa!  Not so much intimidated, maybe not sure if our advances will be acceptable? We all like to think in this day and age we are beyond racial barriers, and admittedly I run into that a LOT less in the Pacific Northwest, but I think people still worry about being rebuked without a clear indication a person is OK with it.
