Pets

This post is not about pets per se, but about something I find a little peculiar.

I was having a look at profiles on another dating site, and a lady went off in her profile about pets. Well she went off about a lot of things, but her take on pets is what got me. Her statement… “I am not interested in dating your pets”… I have always wondered about that; why I see so many ladies profiles filled with pictures of their pets. Now, I can only assume that there is a % of men who have posted pictures of themselves with their pets, or of the pets themselves. Ladies is that what you see in men’s profiles on vanilla sites? Some ladies go to the ridiculous extent where pictures of rover by himself, (dogs are the overwhelming majority of pet photos posted), grossly out number pictures of the profile owner, so much so that you start to wonder who’s profile this really is.

I like pets, dogs more than cats, and I get the whole posing with a pet or young shows you are a warm caring person… one blogger even posted about it here on Senior Sizzle. But… and it’s a huge but, could it not just be lipstick on a pig? It’s pretty easy to go visit a friend with a pet, snappy a few pictures, and post them; and do you really want to get with someone, who is attracted to your pet? Admittedly some things are really lost on me, but when I see a woman with her pet, or a picture of just the pet, I’m kind of puzzled, (beyond the she has a pet)… what’s the message a lady is trying to convey? Someone please enlighten me to the thought process behind this practice.

I find that women hide behind their animals. they cant express themselves to people and talk "through" their pets.
I also find that married women, get dogs as soon as their last child has left home. I believe this is to prevent intimacy , not consciously, necessarily, but that is the end result. without the kids around they may have to actually form a relationship with their spouse and they need a buffer.

Thanks, but you are kind of scaring me! I'm making a mental note... "no married women except for..." "No married women with dogs".

khu, as long as the lady has pride in her pussy, and her cat and/or dog can be relegated to a kennel or another room ... and not in the same bed, I can "live" with that.

No doubt the pet in the profile picture is to tell you two things:
• she is lovable and affectionate.
• she is motherly but doesn't have kids.

Would you rather they have a profile picture showing them cooking like Martha?

To me it says "I'm a pet lover" and you must like "whichever pet" they have.

Open I'll take your word for it, that's what they are trying to show.

Martha may make a hell of sub. Funny enough, I have come across a few profile pictures of ladies getting their domestic on. But more common, are pictures in restaurants with a half consumed meal.

I do the same thing if it's only one or 2 pictures; but beyond that count I'm usually clicking next.

I wonder what my memorial post regarding my deceased cat implies... I note that you viewed the post but did not comment so I suspect that you find my love for my cat a bit creepy.

I think it might have been weirder to have a memorial about a dead goldfish. You can't cuddle them in times of despair like you can a cat.

I think people who show pictures of themselves with their pets are saying that they have an emotional connection with some living thing already and will not expect an emotional bond to form with you if you and they spend an evening of hot, physical intimacy together. Maybe that's something to be sought.
Mel, I didn't have word to comment eloquently.

The particular site where I see this trend actually asks if you have, like or don't like pets, and the specific pets you have an opinion on. It also asks about offspring. All sites have a written profile, where most would feel is more appropriate to talk about these things.

The love of a pet is an endearing quality, but picture are primarily there for interested parties to get an idea of your appearance. 8 pictures of your dog, and 4 of the profile owner is what I wonder about. Who is a potential suitor trying to form the relationship with? If a lady posted 4 picture of herself and 8 of her kids? We would certainly hope she would have a deep emotional bond with her offspring, but would think the move suspect.

That the thing, there are specific question in the profile setups to account for that. But even if you put a single photo of you with your pet or the pet by itself so that men who don't read profiles are aware, do you need more than one picture? Or should pictures of the pet out number pictures of the profile owner?

When I had a pet, I had no preconceived attitude to how any "dates" should relate to my pets... As long as they didn't scare or hurt them.
Even if you did Mel, a line in the profile like "must like cats", seems for more appropriate than photo spread of your pet.

Wildfire, that's what I am trying to understand about the practice. Most dating sites insist that you post a face picture as your main, if you are going to have photo's in your profile. But the pet photo spread just has me scratching my head.

KHU we live behind our pets because we love them. I guess people like to post with their pets to show the kindness of the person. I do see lots of people posting pics with their animals.. Reading through some of your comments it is a very different view point by most.. hugs V

I get that people love their pets, I just don't get trying to attract potential suitors with a photo spread of the pets.

Khu, i suspect that I know which site you are referring to... The purpose of the site is to find long-term partners and potentially marriage.

They don't have a classification for people trapped in my nightmare.

It was still very sweet of you to view my memorial post, even though you couldn't find any words of condolence.
Yes it involves thing in the ocean and people trying to find a match, amount other things.

I often think that some people care more for animals than they do for humans, and if I get that feeling about a lady I won't pursue her.

Then of course ye get the type of pet owner who starts to assume the looks of their pet after a while.............I'd definitely not be chasing a wummin who looked like her dog!

I'm not at all against pets, I just feel a little uncomfortable when I get the impression that the pet is effectively the owner's whole world.

Interesting post.
Pictures of pets on people's profiles don't do too much for me, but I'd sooner see their pet than a fake picture of themselves.

Erotic, I understand your reasoning, but it still doesn't sound like would feature a full photo spread of your dog in your profile. One picture makes the point, but more than that?

I do have kids, and grew up with pets (dog, cat, goldfish)... I don't know if the absence/presence of pets is a game changer, like having kids.

Interesting take Mclindo, the pet being the owner's whole world.

It has never occurred to me to post any photos of me with a pet....I find it rather strange in a way. haven't a clue why anyone would do it unless they want to appear kind and caring.
