Reflections of a Country LIfe

I grew up in a house located on 20 acres of wood in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. The woods have been a place of solace and strength. As a I spent countless hours dreaming and imagining.I would climb the highest rock and declare myself Queen of the Forest with all the animals as my loyal and loving subjects. This poem is my dedication.

I love the mountains
And the forests
That protect
Encompass
And surround them

I run eagerly
Down the well worn path
To my oak tree
Strong thru countless seasons
Of rain and wind
Of snow and sun

A bed of velvet moss
Underneath a green canopy
I rest my head
A soft pillow

Fragrance floats
On a gentle breeze
Honeysuckle and wild rose
Intoxicating
Invigorating

Tranquility broken
The sound from a woodpecker
Rat-a-tat
Rat-a-tat

The day is now ending
Dappled sunlight thru the leaves
I'll stay
Until the sun sets
Knowing
I'll return soon.

Autumn has always been my favorite time in the country. The feast of the senses....

My senses are feasting.
Canopy ablaze in color.
Sun streaming warmth.

My soul awakened.
Fallen leaves crinkle underfoot.
Scrunch, scrunch, crun....

The scents of Autumn,
dried leaves, apples fallen,
cinnamon, & ginger.

Naked in the sun,
his hands roaming my body,
his kiss as he thrusts....

"Don't count the days, make the days count"
