~+_ I got zoomed!

I got a fall back to the good old days yesterday . I woke up to a power and internet outage(lasted until late evening). And in fact , the nearest cell phone tower was out most of the day!! It was very inconvenient, but not earth shattering. I have a gas stove, but am reluctant about using them during a power outage. When you think about it, we are very dependent on these things. I went to the godsons house, which had power, etc, so it was not a big deal. I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for coffee, so the tragedy was mitigated somewhat . Have you given any thought to how a power outage changes your life, even temporarily ? As a , they were frequent and barely were noticeable. Now it seems that life gets altered in an almost melodramatic way. What is your go to plan when this happens in your area?

I do fine without power - unless it affects the temperature. My last outage was for 5 days in the dead of winter. I had to stay with a friend.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

It can be a pain, but I don't worry about outages. The only time is the winter and we just crank up the portable generator to keep the heat on. Also in the summer for the refrig and freezer if it lasts awhile

Will be getting a generator for the new house- I am now out in the boonies.
Southern Maine had a terrible ice storm on Halloween one year and power outage last 4 days. I got Asian take-out the first night and went to Hampton Inn, which has free breakfast and then went on to work, went home fed the cats and back to the inn for three more- and that's city living

About 10 years ago on the 4th of July we had one that lasted all day and most of the night and it being a holiday we had to wait it out. But if the power goes out like that the nearest mall for cooling or the Senior Center..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I live in an apartment, and have had the power go out for a couple of hours. I went out and got a takeout meal, and when I got home, I read by candlelight.

This makes me think I should keep my campstove and barbecue in my apartment, rather than in the basement storage room - so I could at least cook on my balcony if necessary. And I should also keep fresh batteries for my camping flashlights (instead of the ones left over from the previous camping season).

Thanks for the "heads up".
