Back in time

This is the first non-sexual post I’ve written. And we’ll see if any there’s interest in the normalcy of life’s events with clothes on.

I was watching “Today” this morning when I saw Tiffani Amber Thiessen sitting alongside the hosts. I immediately thought back, but not the those atrocious Saved by The Bell years as Kelly Kapowski, but to her time on Beverly Hills 90210 as the vixen Valerie Malone.
Why is that memorable? Because I’m young enough to remember how 90210 changed the culture of teenagers at that time. That show changed everything from clothing to hairstyles, and bringing back into fashion the once shunned, and often made fun of, 1970’s sideburn.
Granted when Tiffani joined the show it was well established and related to just about every in America, but by that time it had turned into what’s now called a ‘ drama.’
But none the less she added a spice and a bad girl image that still rings true today in reruns of the show. I’m not a guru of 90210 but I will say this. Other than Shannon Doherty leaving the program, them losing Thiessen was just as powerful. Them both leaving at their distinctive times marked different turning points in the series. Prior to Tiffani joining the cast in 1995, 90210 was a series based on actual high school life. It was true and relatable and tackled issues that were important to people within the age range of 15 to 19.
Believe it not, there was a time in this country when sex and alcohol abuse was a taboo.
I should know, I lived in that time. But, BH 90210 made it mainstream and brought the problem and realistic happenings to the small screen. It became a real issue that society had to look at.
Tiffani moved the show from that into the more adult, sellable, soap opera. Honestly, she was the best character on the show during that time with her unpredictability and wanton image she portrayed.

Seeing her on Today she looked the same. Still very pretty.
I can remember watching that TV series with high school friends back then. Wednesday night at 8PM in the early 90’s was reserved for BH. It was quite a show back then and seemingly every click in public schools had a Dylan, Brenda, Brandon or Valerie.

Even now, some 15 years later, when something sparks a conversation of those times in the 90’s, and 90210 comes into the conversation, much to the side jokes and one liners, if they’re honest they can only admit how much that program influenced the culture and perception of during that time.
