Sex Ed = Toys and Fun!  Had the local sex toy expert come to class today. What do I want to write about this today?..... I think that there is not enough open talk about sex still. I don't mean about the erm... Nuts and bolts of it, or the dangers. I am glad that thise are being talked about. Don't get me wrong as a guy raising two daughters, I am very happy that those topics are available to pretty much anyone. I'm talking about sex, what makes it good, and how to make it better. Still, to this day the only openly readily acceptable form that influences sex as to pleasure is porn. I hear whispers of the kamasutra...I hear whispers about the joy of sex videos that came out ages ago. Probably one of the best things to happen to sex was a little old lady.... Dr. sue and the Saturday night sex show was the best thing to happen to sex since.... Well since it became socially ok to say you sex for fun and not just to make babies! Most here will remember her. She was out in force during the ninties. I was a having sex at that time. Tuning into that show was one of the best things that ever happned to my love life. She talked about things that even your own partner would be too scared to talk about. I learned more about my woman listening to that little old lady that my woman told me. She talked about didlos, clitoral stimulated orgasms. She talked about g-spots and g-spit stimulation and technique. She advised on sed products of all kinds. She talked about lubrication, natural and non natural, and when to use what. Yeah, learned lots... So I walk into class today and sitting on my side table in the lecture room was small package of lube. This says to me that we've come a long way. Years ago we would've been handed condoms. I think because safe sex at the time was more important than good sex.  Having some lube waiting for me as I reached my chair brought a smile to my face. it meant that I was in for a treat, not a lecture on safe sex. We were walked through the history of the sex toys. How the first one was actually built in the 1800's to massage a man's testicles. It was soon after that it was immediately moved over to the female side of the equation to help with hysteria. Hysteria was treated and administered by doctors. Women would be suffering from somethinng and they would be brought to orgasm by the doctor as a way to help them..... feel better. Eventually the huge machine was scaled down and eventually sold in the sears catalogue as a "back massager" It was taken off the shelves in the fifties because those dang back massagers were being used in porn. Thus sex toys went underground! You weren't allowed to sell them in public, but people still wanted them. It wasn't until '73 when Ronald Regan signed a bill that allowed sex toys to be sold in public. He did this because he was facing an AIDS epidemic. The thinking behind bring sex toys out in public view was to get people to hopefully choose to pleasure themselves, rather than with a partner. Yay America! Up until recently sex shops have mostly been catering to the guys. A sex shop's main business used to be porn and all those silly toys were hidden in the back room. No woman would dare enter, she would have to send her man in there. The business has changed though in recent years and seedy porn style sex shops are almost gone. Now they are full of women and fun about sex is the order of the day. I've been going to sex shops since I was old enough to get in one. Always fascinated by the porn. Always mystified with all the toys! As a I would walk into the local video store to rent movies. There was always a back room that was "off limits". I carried that with me into the porn store. The toys were always positioned in the same manner...at the back of the room. So to me, they were kind of "forbidden" even though I was standing in a porn store! lol! That all changed in the 2000's though. With laptops and internet making headway, porn became less and less of the store. Toys were starting to take over. Soon there started to be sex fun stores popping up everywhere. And women started to work there and come in. This was something new. For some reason, I felt far more comfortable talking to a woman about sex toys, and what she would recommend than some greasy, hairy guy that was the usual person behind the porn counter. Today I sat in class and had a wonderful education on the toys for men, women, heterosexual couples and<b> homosexual </font></b>couples. Harnesses, vibes and masturbators. A real, college-style sexual education on the fun and use of all the different kinds of toys available. I also found out that I bought the really good ones! Hahahaha! Sitting in a college lecture room sure beats finding obscure clubs, shady porn stores and taboo websites to learn about how to have better sex! What do you think? |
